CHAPTER ONE - INTRODUCTION
1.1 PURPOSE OF INDUSTRIAL ATTACHMENT
The Industrial Attachment program also known as Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) fulfills part of the requirement in pursuing the degree of Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) in the Redeemer’s University. This is a training that should last for a minimum of six months. It is intended to expose student to the real life working experience. 1.2.1 OBJECTIVES OF SIWES
The objectives of SIWES are:
* To provide an avenue for students in Institutions of Higher Learning to acquire industrial skills and experience in their course of study * To prepare students for the working situation they are to meet after graduation * To expose students to work methods and techniques in handling equipment and machinery that may not be available in educational institutions. * To provide students with an opportunity to apply their knowledge in real work situation thereby bridging the gap between university work and actual practice.
1.2 ATTACHED COMPANY- CYBERSPACE NETWORK LTD
1.2.1 COMPANY’S PROFILE
Cyberspace Network Limited was incorporated in the year 1995 but started fully in the year 1999. The major areas of operation at Cyberspace Network Ltd are Internet Service Providing and Software Solutions (majorly Edu-portals). Presently, Cyberspace Network Ltd has been licensed by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) to address different varieties of customer requirement in small, medium or large enterprise markets. The licenses granted them are as follows: * Value Added Network Services (VANS/ISP),
* 3.5 GHz Fixed Wireless Access License,
* Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT),
* WIMAX (Worldwide Interoperability Microwave Access) Solution. Their foreign partners include: Cisco Networks Inc. USA, SES - Americom (Verester) Inc. USA, Comparex Africa of South Africa ,IP Planet Network Ltd, Tel-Aviv, Israel, Wavecom, and Arris Technology. In terms of product and services, Cyberspace Network Ltd offers: Internet access via Broadband Fixed Wireless Access (BFWA), WIMAX technology, VSAT, Intranet and Web Development/Hosting, Domain Name Registration, Private Telecommunications Network (VPN), Bandwidth Reselling, IT consultancy and Technical Education, Web Advert, Search Engine Indexing, LAN Design, implementation for corporate client’s e.g. Ethernet Design Cabling, Fiber Design, Wireless LAN.
1.2.2 DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES AT CYBERSPACE NETWORK LIMITED Cyberspace Network Limited has five departments which are: Human Resources (HR) Department, Accounts Department, Software/Web Department, Marketing Department and Technical Department where I was attached to. Technical Department is responsible for provision of internet access and data connectivity. We also maintain and troubleshoot faulty links when reported. We as well cater for IP addressing, network integration and design and implementation of Local Area Network (LAN), both wired and wireless and deployment and installation for new client.
1.2.3 CYBERSPACE’S ADMINISTRATIVE HIERARCHY
