Industrial Revolution Impact On American Society Essay

The early parts of the Industrial Revolution played a huge role in transforming American society. During this time, Americans set the standard for what was going to be the future of the United States. There are a multitude of ideas that could be understood as ideas that transformed American society, but in my mind there are five ideas that developed the United States into the country we are today more than all of the rest. Primarily, the change in agricultural output led to the change in the need workers. Moreover, in the south, as talked about in the book, the cotton industry was beginning to boom at rates where plantations became so large they needed more workers. Mainly, these plantations owners would end up buying slaves to harvest the cotton. In the video “Brotherly Love”, it talked about the tens of thousands of slaves that were forced into the south per decade. This, in large part, can be attributed to the change in the type of crops that were grown during this time period. Moreover, from that these African Americans, in my opinion, played the largest role in transforming American society during the Industrial Revolution. In class, we talked about the impact these people had and just the fact of where the United States would be as a whole with out those slaves. As the book puts it, the slaves allowed the economic boom and the arrival of the United States as a world power. There are, however, images like the cartoon in the 1840 Abolitionist Newspaper which shows the treatment of slaves and the ignorance of slave owners, that, in my opinion, make it difficult to understate what African Americans did to get America to the society and world power we are
