In 1914, taking off and landing a plane successfully was a great achievement. During the war around 22,000 Canadians served in the British flying services as pilots and over 1,600 died. At the beginning of the war there was only a few hundred aircrafts and airships and training was only available in Britain. Once more people were interested in becoming pilots many training schools started to be created in Canada. These training schools were part of an organization created by the British called the Royal Flying Corps Canada. The training of a pilot at these schools was very expensive, costing around $400 for 400 minutes of flight instruction (around $6,000 in today’s money). Even though the price was so expensive, it didn’t stop people from wanting to join the war and support their country. From all the people joining, Canada was able to finally get it’s own air force during the last month of the war.…

I believe that Air Force Memorial Located Arlington Virginia Is the most incredible memorial ever made because of how strongly it shows towards the men and women that were killed in combat. Simple in design, Freed's monument includes three curved stainless steel spires that stretch about 270 feet (82 meter) into the air. Meant to evoke the image of the precision "bomb burst" maneuver performed by the United States Air Force Thunderbird Demonstration Team, the three graceful spires are also designed to represent the U.S. Air Force's command of the skies. The spires sit upon a granite Air Force "star", a symbol found on every U.S.A.F. plane. Other parts of the memorial include a "Runway to Glory" and a bronze Honor Guard statue by Zenos Frudakis. There's also a Glass Contemplation Wall that honors fallen airmen, and two granite inscription walls, one situated at either end of the lawn. Attractive bluestone patios join the Honor Guard and the Contemplation Wall. The construction of the memorial began in September 2004 and finished seven months later. The official dedication was held in 2006 under presence of the then current president George W Bush, who himself previously served as an F-102 pilot, together with around 30.000 people in the audience. Why the Air Force Memorial was built was to honor all 54,000 of the men and women that have died in the Air force from combat. The reason behind why this memorial should be made in 1992, when the newly acknowledged Air Force Memorial Foundation suggested that a memorial in honor of the Air Force personnel should be built the plans were authorized by the current president, Bill Clinton, in 1994 and a site for the memorial was chosen. The chosen site was however not the site where it stands today. Instead, the memorial was planned northeast of the Arlington National Cemetery, close to the Iwo Jima Memorial.…
