The difficulty with group situations is that there are often walls boxing in each individual. The walls keep them isolated from each other. Icebreakers are techniques implemented to demolish these walls. Individual members begin to come together as the barriers crumble. They form a group of people who work together for a common goal; a team, if you will. Icebreakers are used in a million different ways for a million different reasons. More often than not, they are successful in helping people get to know each other, helping to create a unified team.

    Jane McGonigal’s “Games For Change Keynote” lecture is about how much of an influence games have on society and the impact it can bring. Her two main questions to answer during this lecture are “What can games change?” and “What do games change?” McGonigal presents a list of some people’s twitter responses to what games do for them. The first few responses refer to ones emotional state. People with initial negative emotions such as sadness and anxiety can play games and end up feeling much better. Another change she presents is “mental resilience”. This refers to a person’s mindset and how it is altered with games. It is possible for people’s confidence and performance levels to increase after some time playing games. The next thing McGonigal talks about is “social resilience”. How people socialize and interact with the people around them can change with game play as well. For example, many of the games in the present day are multiplayer and present an option to connect with players around the world.     After reading the article, Video Games in Psychotherapy by T. Atilla Ceranoglu, I agree that video games can help in psychotherapy because I believe that playing videos can take their minds off of the tragic things going on in their life, such as children who went through abuse, neglected, control problems etc… This will help them release some stress and to have a little fun. I think those kids who have problems controlling themselves this will help them relax a little and not be hyper. Children like games already so by this being psychotherapy is a good way for the kids to be themselves. This can also help a child connect with their therapist by doping something the child likes and will be distracted. Therefore the therapist can talk to the child and maybe get their feelings out while they are focused on something else. A child can express themselves through the game they choose.
