I Am A Free Bird Persuasive Speech
Hello NAME,

I invite you to participate in our exciting new campaign promoting self expression through the arts for childhood cancer patients. As an artist yourself, I'm sure you are aware of the powerful and liberating impact the arts can have. For children suffering from cancer, it can provide them with the strength and willpower to fight their disease and bring meaning and purpose to their lives.

I am contacting you from A Free Bird Organization™, an entirely volunteer-run arts education 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to inspiring and nourishing the artistic passions of children suffering from cancer. Our new “I Am A Free Bird" campaign involves having individuals answer the question, “How Are You A Free Bird?” by creating short videos

The best option for a pet parrot is the hand-raised parrot. While hatched in an incubator, this baby is then removed from the nest box even before his eyes are opened. He’s then hand fed by humans literally around the clock. By the time he reaches your house, he’s already practically domesticated. A hand-raised parrot is tame, trusting, friendly, and he bonds easily with to family members. Without a doubt, he quickly becomes a beloved family member himself. When you’re considering a hand-raised baby for adoption, you need to look at several important factors. First, find out at what age the chick left the nest box for hand feeding. Ideally, it should be before his eyes…

A typical day for me is spent depending on how I’m feeling. If I am feeling well I will go for a walk either around the neighborhood or at a nearby lake. If not, I will spend the day resting at home and spend time with my family and friends. (Question 2). I no longer have a job because my health does not permit it. (Question 3). I have lost most of my hair and I am quite thin due to the cancer treatments I have undergone (Balducci 2003). In my trying to stay active I find myself out in the public eye frequently. Most people around me display other-oriented communication. Because cancer is a subject that people either know someone who suffered from it, or suffered from it themselves, it enables people to display empathy in it’s highest form. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in this country (Bellenir 2009). It is a subject that people think about and are conscious of it being a possibility in their own future. See others display empathy and other-oriented communication is a big part of my everyday life.…

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as the military combat, natural disasters, terrorism incidents, or any major tragedy. This is common in the life of veterans and is the leading cause of suicide among veterans. A VA patient who survived in Baghdad shares his experience with PTSD and explains how he knew he had this disability. Many veterans speak out about this issue and describe their continuous anger, alcohol addiction, and constantly wanted to fight. They usually feel very isolated and distant from their loved ones. One patient states, “PTSD involves rocketing into extreme states of stress re-activity; in the form of terror, rage, and uncontrollable impulses, and plunging into equally extreme states of being shut-down—exhaustion, emotional numbing, despair, and dissociation”. PTSD is about having fear and anxiety, allowing veterans to rage with anger and different emotion. There are many factors to PTSD, which affects others in different ways; or example, using video games to keep them occupied, spending money due to the lack of impulse control because of changes in their brain, and even not obtaining another job.…

By delving into new media, I realized the process of creating art was just as therapeutic as the work itself. In printmaking, for example, I designed a silkscreen self-portrait which illustrated my mental disorder. The first print was the most emotionally difficult to make because I struggled confronting my disorder. However, the more copies I created, the more I could accept the face looking back at me. Because of this process, I could present the piece in my classroom critique. Additionally, my ceramic pieces each had a definite conceptual backbone, but working the clay with my hands promoted a sense of wellness and satisfaction that I had not yet achieved with another medium. The combined therapeutic capability of art itself and the process of making art are now tools of healing and self-expression that I can use as an artist and in my future…

I’d like to begin by quoting Captain Paul Watson, “If you want to know where you would have stood on slavery before the Civil War, don't look at where you stand on slavery today. Look at where you stand on animal rights.” Throughout my presentation I ask that you keep these questions in mind: Is slavery no longer slavery when its not happening to humans? Is abuse not abuse if it isn't happening to your species? And, is murder not considered murder when its not happening to someone like you? If I ask all of you if you love animals, most of you would say yes. Yet its because of people like you that animals like pigs, cows, and chickens suffer and take knives to the neck every second of every minute of every day. Humans have victimized animals so much, that they aren't even considered victims anymore. We have turned living, feeling, breathing beings into inanimate objects such as shoes, and sandwiches. Every year on this planet 60 billion land and 90 billion marine animals are slaughtered without a second thought to feed the greed of humans. In the United States alone, there are more than 5,000 trucks carrying animals to slaughter houses where they will be hung upside down, and while fully conscience, have a bullet put between their eyes or have a knife slash their neck, all in order to feed a group of ungrateful humans who don't even need it for survival. Out of all the abused animals on this planet 98% of them are victims of the meat, egg, and dairy companies. If you consume animals, and the things that come out of animals, you are intentionally causing pain, and suffering. I find it unbelievable how a species that claims to know the difference from right…
