Are you a pet lover and an allergy sufferer? You are not alone. There are a lot of pet lovers around the globe who are allergic to dogs. The aim of this article is to help you find the best dog breed to coexist with you without triggering a sneezing fit. We have listed below some of the most popular allergy friendly or ‘hypoallergenic’ dogs recognized by the AKC.

What are hypoallergenic dogs?

These allergy friendly dogs do not produce a lot of allergens and dander. This doesn't mean that, these dogs don’t produce allergens or don’t shed. There is no dog breed in the world that doesn't shed at all. The chances of these hypoallergenic dogs causing you allergy problems are comparatively very less when compared to other dog breeds.

The short coat of the Airedale should be plucked once every six months and doesn't shed extensively. The coat can also be kept trimmed if you want to reduce the time spent on grooming. You should probably not get an Airedale terrier if you happen to live in an apartment since they are hyperactive and need a lot of room to run around.

- Basenji

The small, muscular, and intelligent Basenji is native to Congo. The dog has a shiny coat, which is short and durable. This makes the dog one of the best choices for allergy sufferers. The Basenji can adjust if you live in an apartment, however needs a lot of vigorous exercise at least thrice a week.

Fun fact: Basenji is probably the only dog breed known to man, that doesn't bark. It sometimes howl or growl, depending on its mood.
