The purpose of essay will be to discuss my prefered writing system between alphabetical writing and semanto-phonetic writing. Alphabetical writing has been a mainstream style of writing among european countries and has an increasing influence all over the world. Semanto-phonetic writing has a five thousands history and it is probably one of the most long standing and well established writing system in the world. With the modernization and civilization of human race, the two writing systems has evolved and being widely used in human daily lives for communication, information storage, literary purposes etc. Indeed, adapting semanto-phonetic writing takes priority over alphabetical writing. In the following paragraphs, I would illustrate how semanto-phonetic writing has advantages over alphabetical writing in terms of cultural uniqueness, literary usage and language practicability.

Semanto-phonetic writing has an irreplaceable status in cultural development and it plays an important role in literary heritance. As taught in the lectures, chinese words once appeared as symbols, which a word directly prescribe the shape or meaning of an object, also known as the oracle bone

After seeing Robert Roesch’s piece of art called “Transition” I could not believe how extravagant it truly was. The overall work of art from my perspective is actually inspirational. There are five durable pieces of steel standing side by side, and each piece grows one by one. At the tip of each pole there is a light fixture with a light bulb. This entire work of art just reminds me of college in general. Every pole represents a new beginning and a new year. The colors of each pole mean something too. Basically what Roesch is trying to say is that at first you feel like you’re at the bottom, it is dark and scary but then the year gets brighter because at the top of each piece is a light fixture. Each sculpture gets bigger and brighter each time. That means that each year you will experience hard times and fun times, you just have to pull through and try your best. In the end you’ll grow into a mature adult and be ready for reality. Robert Roesch did a great job at creating this piece because personally, it definitely touched my heart. If someone’s ever on campus and has extra time on their hands they definitely should stop by and check out Transition.…

    2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of a form of writing that is pictographic and ideographic (like Chinese) versus one that is alphabetic? Advantages: A single characater can mean an entire phrase or can have multiple meanings. If you are fluent in the meanings, then it is easier to read and ideas can be connected together more quickly. If the pictographs represent everyday things that everybody knows, it may be easier to learn to understand the language on the more basic level. Disadvantages: It could take a very long time to learn it all. For example, it could take a very long time to learn all the letters that represent one idea or thought. It has a wider interpretation, something may mean one thing to a person and slightly different to another. For example, a letter could represent a cat , could be seen as a panther to somebody else.…
