Huffm Journal Analysis
Huffman.Session1. Journal
The event that has impacted my life, which will now influence my academic work and goals at Colorado Christian University was the loss of my job earlier this year. I was with my company for over a year and a half working in the capacity as an Associate Project Manager, overseeing Clinical Grant Payments. I have been working in the Pharmaceutical industry for over 16 years and enjoyed every moment of it and still do. God has always graciously provided me with a job, and a compassion for the pharmaceutical industry. However, this last job was a real reality check for me. While working at my company, I started to notice some real unethical practices from one of my co- workers who worked closely with me on my project.

The company that I researched for unethical practices is Tyco International; the nature of the controversy was the fraud and scandals that Tyco international has gone through. In 1999 the SEC began to analyze Tyco’s accounting practices do to the company was standing in 28 million dollars in debt. They were able to pinpoint many areas that were not adding up with the amounts money was being taken and there was really no good explanation. They found out that the CEO at that time Dennis Kozlowski and the CFO Mark Swartz failed to disclose millions of dollars of low interest and interest free loans from Tyco. The company was so far in debt they almost had to file bankruptcy, the unethical behavior from the CEO and the CFO resulted in the shareholders lost millions of dollars because their shares went from $60 dollars down to $15 dollars. It is said that between the both of them they stole over $170 million dollars from the company.…

When one starts a company or organization, there are many aspects of that business that need to be sorted. One important aspect of any workplace is the environment and standard of work that needs to be established. This is important for employees to understand what is expected of them. It sets the tone of what behavior is acceptable and what will not be tolerated. It is up to management to ensure the business ethics are established and explained to the employees. It is also important that they show their employees what these standards are by setting an example. When executives and management lead by example, it produces a healthy work environment where the employees are encouraged to act in such a manner. If they (management) engage in unethical and illegal behavior, it sets the tone for a negative work environment that is not healthy for anyone who is employed there. There are examples of companies where management engaged in illegal behavior and the end result was they hurt the company as well as all those who worked for the company. Enron and Worldcom executives ran their business into the ground by lying to their employees as well as those around them who thought the companies were doing very well.…

Why is ethical conduct being misused in an organization? Almost every day we hear about a new story about an organization being accused of ethical conduct. In my class Psychology 2101 I was asked to write about three major events that occurred during my lifetime for class. I have thought about this almost all semester and it was a constant struggle just to think of even one event that I would have liked to share. This class has shown me that almost everybody has their problems, some that cope with them well, and others that still struggle to figure a path that will lead them to happiness. I myself have personal issues that I have learned from. This paper will describe the three events and how they have impacted my life. During the paper I will do my best to put these events in chronological order.…

    Life Changing Event

Throughout my life I can definitely say that I have one life-changing event that rises above the rest. In my junior year of high school, 2008, a very close friend of mine, Renay, passed away unexpectedly. At only 16, she fell victim to a drunk driving accident. Renay was a dear friend to me. We had a special friendship and connection we shared through dance and sports. I miss the days when life was simple; we would go to the mall to hangout and shop for shoes. This was one of our favorite things to do together. One year for her birthday, which happened to coincide with spring break, she and her family went down to Rosarito. Three days before her birthday she and her cousin were driving back to their hotel from a restaurant where her cousin was drinking. As they were driving in Rosarito there are very winding roads. Renay’s cousin was speeding and lost control of the vehicle, unfortunately going down a cliff. The morning I got the call saying she was in an accident and didn’t make it was the day my life had changed, I remember falling to the ground in tears thinking is this an awful dream I will eventually wake up from. The answer was no, she was gone and I would never be able to hold or hug her again. Joseph T. O’Connor explains in his article “A view from Mount Ritter” “It’s funny how these memories keep coming back to me as if it were just yesterday”(13). I agree with O’Connor there is not a day that passes by that I do not think of Renay and her tragic loss. My friends and I did so many fundraisers to help her family bring her body back from Rosarito. We were able to help her family tremendously. Her funeral was in Ohio where she was originally from, the car ride up to Ohio from San Diego was quit and sad because we all knew with everything we did to help her family would not bring back our sweet Renay. As a result of the death of my best…
