How the Attacks on September 11th Changed the World
In order for a country to fight crime there must first be crime, which there always is, but specifically there must be enough of a certain kind. My topic is terrorism as this recently changed the face of America and created multiple government agencies and plans for action. Other examples are the drug trade, human trafficking, and gun running. September 11th, 2001 marks the day that most of were alive for and remember well. America was rocked by a devastating blow to the gut. Terrorist hijacked multiple airliners, passengers included, and crashed the planes into the Twin Towers in New York City. America reacted quickly and concisely by creating the Dept. of Homeland defense. Various laws were created as well, most well known is the USA Patriot Act of 2001 which gave authorities vastly more powers in certain aspects deemed useful for combating terrorism. Created later on, but directly linked to 9/11 was the FISA Amendments act of 2008 which: “allowed the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to authorize warrantless surveillance of Americans' international electronic communications.” America was so shocked by the attack that a large number of Americans were willing to sacrifice some of their freedoms to stop future terrorism. It is unclear if this was really worth it, but the government certainly didn’t mind passing these laws. The impact of 9/11 was huge to the American people and to America’s policies both public (transnational) and domestic. The impact of terrorism is huge round the world. Egypt, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Israel, etc are countries that are constantly being terrorized by both internal factions and global terrorists. 9/11 had little effect on the world outside of the US as far as the actual attack. However the laws resulting from 9/11 have affected the world greatly. Air travel became more complicated and difficult especially for non-americans trying to enter the US. Also the resulting war in
