Travel is a fundamental part of people’s lives in the 21st century. It is just like what Anita Desai said, “Wherever you go becomes a part of you somehow.”
In china, those businesses, which are related to the tourism, can gain huge benefit due to its economy of scale. Since travelling is getting more and more popular in China, more Chinese travelling around in their mainland as well as to another country, there is a huge opportunity for the travelling business.

Many prominent tech companies have failed to make it in the Chinese market, either because they deemed the discount-based competition to be too brutal, or due to censorship issues. Earlier this year, Uber sold its entire China business to rival Didi Chuxing, in exchange for a stake in its Chinese rival. (Hook, L.)

As Chinese people don’t use cash as often, changes to Airbnb’s payment method is needed. Therefore cooporation with the local Electronic payment company is likely to happen. This will cost lots of money invested to its technology.

In order to summarize some of the problems Airbnb may face with entering the Chinese market, I have applied Lewin’s forcefield

Air transport is definitely the major growth area for the HNA group, generating 78% of the group’s revenue. Efficient operations and lean management allow it to derive higher margins compared to its competitors. The group’s plans in this business block are aggressive, indicated by the formation of Grand China airlines. Airports are directly complementary to the airline operations and provide an avenue to grow and expand, with the increasing Chinese government policy towards privatization of airports. The tourism block and the hotels block complement each other in addition to benefiting the air transport business. The relative industries serve a primary purpose of diversifying the Group’s assets, protecting it against unexpected global fluctuations.…

Personally, I feel these are changes in the right direction, but not sufficient. The business could be affected both positively and negatively: Negatively due to the host not agreeing to these changes; ultimately it is their home being rented to complete strangers, making the screening processes a need for them. Host not knowing who will be staying in their home may eventually lead to them completely leaving the company. Positively effects are mostly in effect to the consumer, no one should be discriminated against for whatever reason it may be so the ideology of being able to rent a home without having to submit to a background check, so to speak, is beneficial to all, especially those who in the past have been a discriminated against but still would like to use Airbnb services. It is my opinion Airbnb is not fully committed to these changes, they are committed to a temporary quick fix (affirmative action). Also if a host denies someone the ability they can still repost, just not the same day. This to me still shows some signs of discrimination, if you do not want to rent to someone for whatever reason they should not be allowed to repost at all. That same person that attempted to rent may later see that the option is available to others would definitely make someone feel unease and discriminated which is what Airbnb is trying to avoid in the first place. Also the percentage of future minority representation in the company is so minute, higher minority percentage should be hired. Within time I believe Airbnb will realize that it may not be enough there are two markets to satisfy: the consumer and the host, essentially they are both using Airbnb…

This is a case study about how a foreign carrier, China Airlines, adapts it strategy competing in the Guam-based airline industry. The case traces the company’s history on Guam from setting up its regular flight schedule between Guam and Taipei, through a pricing competition with its main competitor Continental Micronesia, to today where it occupies the sole market share of flights between these locations. In addition, the study explains China Airlines approach to its customers through partnerships with hotels and tourism companies in both Taiwan and on Guam; how this business has been affected by immigration regulations; and how it has become a successful carrier on Guam, in spite of failing to reach its initial goal for even being on Guam.…

This week a New York Administrative Law Judge declared Airbnb illegal. A few weeks ago, the NYC taxi and limo lobby quashed a new pilot hybrid-car e-taxi program, causing Mayor Bloomberg to rail angrily against the politically powerful NYC taxi industry cartel. This follows on the heels of car sharing startup RelayRides (carsharing, which operates like an Airbnb for cars) announcement it suspended its service in New York after regulators enforced the state’s unique insurance law protections., New York City regulators have also forced limo rental network, Uber, and ridesharing network, SideCar, to curtail services.…
