How Rosie Bush Changed My Life

I did not know another person could have made such an impact on my life, especially to the extent of making me the woman I am today. My mother, Rosie Bush, inspired me to become the best person I can be. She taught me to never settle for less no matter how hard times may get and to continue to push forward regardless of the obstacles. Most importantly, she instilled in me the importance of family.
My mother, who stood 5 feet 7 inches, caramel-brown skin, round face with high cheekbones, and weighting about 157 pounds; was a single parent of three kids, two girls and one boy. She was very firm when it came to her children. She would not allow any grade in her house below a B-. She pushed my sister and me the hardest when it came to education. Her favorite saying was “You can’t sit around and depend on no one to take care of you; you need to get out there and get it yourself.” My mother dropped out of high school when she was pregnant with my sister. Sometimes I think she was harder on us because she did not graduate from high school and she realized how hard it was to have kids and not have at least a high school education.
In the evening after school, we would go to work with her and try to help her clean buildings. However, the majority of the time my sister and I, played hide and go seek in the corner offices with blue carpet and long brown shiny desks with black chairs and/or cubicles with blue carpet and short desks with ceramic tops and black chairs. I know it was somewhat of a disappointment to my mom knowing that she had to take her kids to work with her because she could not afford daycare. Luckily, you would not have known that because she always smiled and acted as if everything was ok.
