Role Model Review
Today many world views are emerging among celebrities that can effect whether or not they are a good role model to people, for example is former Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson and his worldview of Buddhism. Jackson’s worldview effects his life as much as anyone’s does, particularly in the areas of family, money/career and the nature of God. When comparing his world view to mine of a Christian world view you can see the many differences more clearly than the very few similarities, however do those differences play a big enough factor to determine his quality of a role model, or lack thereof.
“Starting from a young age Jackson was read lines from the Good Book from his mother and in virtually every way the Jacksons (Phil’s parents) spiritual beliefs shaped their children’s lives” (Larenzby, p.47, 2002). This was something we had in common along with sports because much like my own family, knowing God and his works were of grave importance growing up. “In seventh and eighth grade, he was quarterback of the football team, center in basketball, and a developing pitcher and first baseman in baseball” (Larenzby, p.57 2002). To strive for excellence and to excel is a mutual value and action between myself, someone with a Christian world view, and Jackson, someone with a Buddhist worldview. As a follower of Jesus I find it vitally important to choose a role model that embodies the beliefs and values of Jesus. However in the way that Jackson carries himself and the fact that he has had a successful life I believe that he would suit a respectable role model even though he has a different

First, he decides to look at scripture to see if his Christian faith backs up the way he is inclined to go. One scripture from the Old Testament to support Officers Jacksons viewpoint is Proverbs 22:2 NIV, “Rich and poor have this in common: The LORD is the Maker of them all”. This reminds Jackson that everyone is equal in the fact that they share the same Creator. Another scripture he looks at is in the New Testament, by Jesus, in John 13:34, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” Thus, by looking at Jesus’s teaching, it shows that we are all to love one another. Therefore, by looking at this dilemma rationally with scripture, the decision Officer Jackson should choose is aligning more with his beliefs.…

Jackson's appeal to the American people was the appeal of the chieftain to the tribe. He was a common man, and stood up for the common people. His actions were to push for a government that acted within the limits of the Constitution. Jackson's faith in himself motivated him to work and achieve throughout his life. Everyone has a favorite athlete that they admire watching as they grow up. But my favorite athlete is a athlete that I was never able to see play. His name is Vincent Edward Jackson better known as Bo Jackson. He was born on November 30, 1962 in Bessemer, Alabama. Jackson came to fame as a multi-talented athlete, who excelled in baseball, football and track at an early age. His superior athletic abilities memorized me in ways that no other athlete has. He had a body of a Greek God and a personality of a church mouse. Bo’s athletic tenure was so brief; he played professional football and baseball for less than 10 years.…

    a. No matter what people say, multitasking is one of the hardest things to do. Whether it’s play two sports in high school or work two jobs, it’s tough to handle all that responsibility. I myself played two sports in high school and trying to balance that out with school was a tough enough task in itself. Now imagine having to manage two professional jobs at the same time, well that’s the life Bo Jackson lived, my favorite professional athlete and arguably the best athlete of all time. Vincent ‘Bo’ Jackson was born on November 30, 1962 in Bessemer, Alabama. He earned the nickname “Bo” early as a child because he was a very rough and competitive kid and his brother shortened the word “boar” into “Bo”. He was one of eight children and had only a mother growing up, so he lived in a very troublesome home. Bo was a tough-edged and competitive person since he was a young child. He was getting into fights and doing reckless things that all kids do. But because he was so gifted at sports, he realized he had to stay out of trouble if he wanted to get out of his rough neighborhood. Bo excelled at sports in high school and even got drafted by the New York Yankees after his senior year, but he chose to attend Auburn University to play football and baseball, and get his education like his mother had wanted. This was the beginning of an entire life changing time for not only Bo, but also for the fans who watched him. Bo Jackson changed the entire sports world and the way we looked athletes forever.…
