Globalization can be defined as people, ideas, and goods spread throughout the world, spurring more interaction and integration among the world’s cultures, governments and economies. (Rouse) Globalization has been around for a long time. Some can date it back to the Roman Empire; although it became well known in the 1980s. Rapid advances in technology have seem to boost the speed of global integration in the early 21st century. Money, technology, and goods move faster across national boundaries now more than ever in the past. Globalization is becoming more popular in today’s society. Globalization has its proponents and critics just like anything else in today’s world. Proponents include new markets and promotes greater cultural and social integration by elimination barriers. It has affected the US socially, economically, politically, and environmentally. It has spread the American influence throughout the world. When globalization is used not only is there American influence everywhere but also we have different countries influencing America. We socially benefit from globalization a lot of different ways. Having the influences of different cultures coming into the US enriches our culture. It gives us access to different cultures art or entertainment. Economically it helps by making prices lower. It creates competition and therefor the prices end up lower. Products are available to us better with globalization. A negative side of this is it can affect the US jobs.
