There was a lot of fear brought to the old man when he thought someone was in the house and had been stalking him. This is stated in the fifth paragraph, it says, “ Although I chuckled at heart. I knew that he had been lying awake ever since the first slight noise His fears had been ever since growing upon him. He had been trying to fancy them causeless, but he had been saying It is nothing but the wind in the chimney.” Based off of this quote, this shows how there is a sense of fear and panic in the old man which, brought that horror characteristics into the story. Then, there was also fear of insane that was brought towards the end of the story. It says, “Yet the sound increased and they heard! They suspected! They knew! Villains! I shrieked dissemble no more! I admit the deed! Tear the planks! It is the beating of his hideous heart!” This shows how the killer let the fear get closer to his insanity which leads him to confess to his crime although, the heart was not beating nor the officers heard

"The Tell Tale Heart" as people say, "This story is told through the eyes of a madman.......Who,like all of us, believed that he was sane." Sanity believe it or not, is harder to keep than you think. One thing that I have learned from "The Tell Tale Heart" which is, obsessing over little things, is that obsession can lead to insanity. As it did for the man when he obsessed over the old man's eye and heart beat. Obsessions are a common thing and my three basic points of this are, the insanity of the man in the story, the obsession of negativity in Poe's life and how his sanity was effected and how obsessions connects with my life and others around me.…

Fear can be helpful in many ways. It can help by offering restraint and it can suppress irrational acts. An example is driving past the red light. As the light turns from yellow to red you think of stepping on it, but the fear of receiving a ticket stops you from speeding. Fear can be useful, but it can also be damaging. A disadvantage of fear is that it can lead to paranoia which then leads to obsession. Obsession is dangerous as seen in the three stories written by Edgar Allen Poe. The first story “Tell-Tale Heart”, it's about a man that obsesses about a creepy eye. The “Pit and the Pendulum” is about a man that’s stuck in a prison and is faced with many extremely difficult obstacles. Finally, the “Masque of Red Death” is about a prince named Prince Prospero that fears the red death and so locks himself and his friends from the outside world. In the all of the three stories, Poe uses symbol, irony, and imagery to inform us on how fear can deceive your rational thoughts and the outcome of the trick.…

A nameless person clarifies that he is and was very nervous, yet is not and was not insane. Rather, the storyteller has a “disease” which turns every one of his senses, particularly his hearing, extremely sensitive. To show that he is not insane, the storyteller shares an occasion from his past. The narrator likes the old man and does not have anything against him. The only thing that shakes him is his dreadful eye, which is “a pale blue eye, with a film over it” (Poe). Symbolically the eye means the narrator’s vision and outlook on the world is obscured. Our perusing of the story is in like manner filtered through his hazy eye, bringing about in any event some confusion and irritation with the story.…
