The Mexicans were robbed of their land, their peace, and their laws. America hurt Mexico because of the things it took. In Document A we saw that Americans said that they took Texas. Mexico felt as if they had been robbed. Land had been stolen from them and they were not okay with it.The United States stole Texas because they did not pay for it. Mexico was not okay with them taking it either. This implies that the US took what did not belong to them which means that they stole the land. The Americans also robbed the Mexicans from their peace. Before America showed up in their lands they had an amount of peace. They were not worried about their borders. Then Americans showed up and their peace left because it was replaced by war. They now had

One can argue that the Mexican-American was an unprovoked and unjustifiable war of aggression and territorial aggrandizement. It could also be argued that the war was not unprovoked nor was it territorial aggrandizement. Realistically the war provoked, justifiable, and not territorial aggrandizement. This notion is exemplified through the document provided.…

The Mexican American war started in 1846, ten years after Texas won its independence from Mexico. In 1844 Texas was annexed, upon their request, to the United States. This caused trouble with the Mexican government because they believed that the southern border of Texas was along the Del Norte river, while the American government believed that the border was the Rio Grande river. When U.S. President James Polk sent troops into this disputed territory, Mexico attacked, killing sixteen American soldiers, and starting the Mexican-American war. The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because, Texas was independent from Mexico, Mexico engaged in violence first, and Mexico was not governing Texas well.…

It was not that long ago the United States went to war with their neighboring country, Mexico. With James K. Polk being elected president of the United States in 1844, things were about to change for Mexico. A war was about to emerge that would make the United States a bigger and better country. Without the economic growth, Mexico lacked a strong Army to defeat the American Army and Navy to keep their land. Mexico would not give up their land without a fight. People believe that the United States had no right to start a war with Mexico and take a huge part of their land. With that being said, President Polk had other plans up his sleeve, a plan to take Mexican land from Texas to California.…

The first reason the United States was justified in going to war with Mexico is because they were in desperate need of land. The U.S’s population was growing rapidly due to its increase in birth rate and immigration (Document E). This growing population meant there wasn't enough land for everyone to live comfortably, which meant having to move west. The U.S would not just take land if they did not intend to put it to good use. They're moving their people into Texas because they need more space, which is a good reason why they had to move down…

The Americans violated Mexican laws. How? According to Document D, American slaveholders crossed the Sabine River, which borders Louisiana and Texas, into Texas. This was an act of defiance against the Mexican mandate of freedom. In Mexico, owning slaves were not allowed. Also, when rebellion started, so did territorial robbery. So not only did American citizens break laws of slavery, they were taking away half of Mexico.…

The Mexican-American war stared in 1821 after Mexico won its independence from Spain, thus allowing American settlers to move into the newly unoccupied territory. In the treaty Mexico agreed to give 500,000mi to the U.S., while the united states paid Mexico $15 million. There are many different point of views towards the Mexican-American war. The United states was not justified by going to war with Mexico because, they fought for what belonged to Mexico in the first place. And they used the belief of Manifest Destiny to overspread our country ignorantly.…

Though sometimes ignored in American history classes, America is built upon stolen land—taken by force from natives and Mexicanos alike. Almost unsurprisingly, I never knew of the true story behind the Alamo or the United States’ expansion westward; I was completely ignorant to the plight faced by the Mexicanos that previously occupied the land of what is now known as Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and California. Out of all the people outlined, Apolinaria Lorenzana’s story was the most prominent; she, like many other Mexicanos, had her own rightful land taken from her. Left in the ashes of her former prosperity and in the depths of poverty, Lorenzana’s anger at the Anglo-Americans is clear; at the same time, her anger defines what many other…

“The war is waged against an unoffending people, without just or adequate cause, for the purposes of conquest; with the design to extend slavery; in violation of the Constitution, against the dictates of justice, of humanity, the sentiments of age in which we live, and the precepts of the religion we profess.” The war between the United States and Mexico had a lot of conflict between each other, and their tensions evolved over time. Although the United States war against Mexico resulted in the gaining of America´s most valuable land, the war itself was unjust because of the increase in slavery, Texans had greedy actions, and President Polk provoked the war.…

In president Polk’s declare for war on May 11, 1846 he states, “... after a long continued series of menaces, have at last invaded our territory and shed the blood of our fellow-citizens on our own soul…” This shows that Mexico took over America territory and killed 16 American soldiers without neigotate or any greetings. In Document D it states “The invasion was threatened solely because Texas had determined, in accordance with solemn resolution of the Congress of the United States…” This tells that it was plainly our duty to extend our protection over her citizens and soil… Also Mexico was passed the boundary of the United states, has invaded our territory, and shed American blood upon the American soil.…

In the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo the is 18 articles and the 1 article says “There shall be firm and universal peace between the United States of America and the Mexican Republic, and between their respective countries, territories, cities, towns, and people, without exception of places or persons.” They (the United States and Mexico) did end the war in peace but their counties, territories, cities, towns, and people didn't have the peace they needed. The reason why they didn't have the peace they wanted was because when the war ended the United States end with the moral superiority and took the stand of manifest destiny and took almost half of Mexico. Therefore the peace that everyone wanted was not there because after the United States had what they want they came up with the citizenship that basically meant that only the citizens where able to go be the the United States and the Mexicans had to be in the Mexico and couldn't pass what is know known as the border. The borders where made of 53 markers and of stones. The United States took control of everything that was once Mexico in the summer of 1846. Persistent Polk said that it was time that Mexico had its own independence but in reality he…

Understanding the Chicano movement requires an understanding of the past. Often heard among Mexican Americans is the saying, "We did not cross the border; the border crossed us." This refers to the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that ended the war between the United States and Mexico and ceded much of the Southwest to the U.S. government for a payment of $15 million. The treaty guaranteed the rights of Mexican settlers in the area, granting them U.S. citizenship after 1 year and recognizing their property rights. However, the Senate would not ratify the treaty without revisions. It eliminated articles that recognized prior land grants and reworded articles specifying a timeline for citizenship. The result was…
