Houston College Application
My love and interest in Houston's sports teams has given me a means of identifying with my beloved hometown. Until recently I had no idea how to connect myself with the city and the millions of other Houstonians that inhabited Houston. I then discovered the cities sports teams the Texans, Rockets, and Astros which many of the cities locals love and support endlessly. Ever since discovering these teams I have become a ferocious supporters of them win or lose. I support them no matter without any conditions I do it because I want to and because I love them. Whether I am cheering from my couch at home, a booth at a restaurant, or in the stands with other loyal followers I'm not shy of showing that the team on the field or the court are my teams. My loyalty to them has no end no matter if they squeaked past an opponent or got utterly humiliated I openly will continue through show my love and passion for something I care about. This same passion that I have shown cheering and applauding my team I have transferred into other endeavors I have undertaken. I have turned this passion of sports and Houston’s sports teams into passion for my school work and now the college application process. I have become more passionate about my school work making me more motivated to not just improve my letter grade but also to gain knowledge for the sake of gaining knowledge. My openness to show my support for something that I feel very strongly about I feel has also helped prepare me for my college experience. In college I expect that their will always be other students and professors to look for me to defend my stance.

Often times you see athletes performing dominating blocks, making big hits, or making acrobatic catches. However, athletes have much more to offer off their respective playing surfaces that goes unseen. Here at Henderson State University athletes are supposed to epitomize what a college student in Arkadelphia should be. We’re depended upon to be campus leaders to our peers and set examples verbally as well as through our actions. Sometimes we’re seen as intimidating individuals do to our outer appearance but we’re empathetic to others just as others. Our athletic program is set on allowing our athletes to give back to our community and school through participation in various events that occur throughout the calendar year. By providing opportunities for student-athletes to serve, these young men and women make meaningful contributions to society. Teams as well as individual student-athletes are involved in numerous charity and community organizations, schools and hospitals. Some student-athletes have also created, initiated and implemented service projects/activities. One specific event, Reddie to Serve, allows us just this amble opportunity to show our gratitude and appreciation back to the citizens of…

With all the opportunities given to me outside of the classroom at Florida State, one thing that I would like to achieve is to know all the chants for the football games. Being from New Jersey, high school football is not the biggest deal. No one goes to play division one football and when the season is over, it is never talked about again. But at Florida State, football is a big deal. Learning these chants would make me a part of a community, something not found where I'm from. Assimilating to life in Tallahassee will be a huge transition for me. Life in New Jersey is cold, fast paced and very rigid. But down in Florida, everything is warm, there are friendly people and everyone speaks slower. Being a part of the community down in Florida State would facilitate this transition. Being a part of something makes you feel like you belong, and when you belong, you can thrive. A sense of community is something I would like to achieve…

Once you go to a basketball game, you will most defiantly have school pride. It’s one thing to go out and support your team just because it’s just that, you're team. It’s completely different when your school basketball team is really good, it is very exciting to watch the games, to say the least. A basketball game was the first Polk State function I had attended. Even though I knew not a single person in the stands I kept finding myself on my feet cheering on the team and booing the referees for bogus calls, I had school pride. I sat down in silence for a moment because I figured everyone in the stands was just starring at me and that the game had come to a screeching halt, the players and all. But I look around me and I am surrounded by cheering students, parents and teachers. Thats when I truly realized how much school pride there is a Polk State.…

For many students, the college experience is measured by the success of their NCAA-sanctioned athletic programs. Without the experience and athletic performance the student athlete brings, most colleges would not reap the benefit of these significant revenue-generating activities. At best, current NCAA regulations need to be revisited to ensure all avenues are addressed to enable the success of athletic students both in the classroom and on the field or court of play. As stated previously, even though students receive full and partial scholarships determined by their athletic performance, in both instances financial hardship is still experienced by many. Since the various professional sports’ programs reap the conditioning and experience of college student athletes, sponsorship initiatives should be pursued to allow student athletes some form of payment without creating additional outlays for colleges and universities.…

I’ve persevered through many stages of my athletic career including being told by coaches at the age of 14, you will never be good enough to play varsity. I spent the next two years working passionately to be stronger, faster, smarter, and varsity quality. My hard work proved to be successful in baseball and the classroom. I was 2015 First Team All Orange County Player, All Sunset League Player two years, and CIF Champion. That hard work and dedication lead to multiple Division I offers. I choose Cal Poly because of the education, the baseball program, and the SLO community. I’ve been asked to share my story with little leaguers and high school athletes. Those opportunities to share with young students have offered me new prospective and understanding that I can achieve my career goals by obtaining a RPTA…

The author describes athletes special circumstance through information that explains how scholarships work to appeal to readers empathy. He states that scholarships are awarded on a year-to-year basis that can be revoked if athletes are injured or underperform. This reason to feel persuades the reader to reconsider their opinion on the controversy because it challenges the misconception that most student hold which is that athletes get scholarships for their four years. It allows readers to feel sympathy towards an athlete’s situation because they are obligated to maintain athletic performance that satisfies their coaches along with academic eligibility to prevent their scholarship termination. Because readers are students and they understand how time much college courses alone require from their own experience, they are likely to understand how much work athletes put into their academics and sport performance. Athletics Before Academics?

An anonymous individual once said, “People don’t play sports because it’s fun. Ask any athlete, most of them hate it, but they couldn’t imagine their life without it. It’s part of them, the love/hate relationship. It’s what they live for.” The quote continues saying, “It’s who they are. It’s who we are. We are athletes.” An athlete is an individual who trains to compete in a sporting event. However, there is a fine line distinguishing an athlete and a student athlete, or at least there should be. A student athlete, where student comes first and shows the balance of a full time student and a full time athlete, is an individual who competes in organized sports sponsored by an educational institution. Rephrase this for clarity…The majority of individuals are not able to continue their athleticism and their passion for their sport into college for at least four more years that they have played for many years beginning as young children, but those who are fortunate enough should not take it for granted. Colleges should have the same standards for their student athletes academically as they do for their non-athlete students. Colleges should not have exceptions and give their student athletes free hand outs, they should have strict rules and requirements, and colleges should set up tutors and extra help for their student athletes should they need it. Student athletes need to learn how to prioritize their “Three S’s,” study first, sports second, and their social life third. Colleges and universities should keep their standards just as high for student athletes than non-athlete students but Don’t use “in the end”… It’s a cliché…overall in the end it is the student athlete’s responsibility. The tensions between athletics and academics has flared and produced negative attitudes towards student athletes from professors and non-student athletes, due to…

Joining the future business leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, becoming a youth leader at Christ Church, as well as many other volunteering activities helped me enrich my community, and make an impact in the world around me. Along with these organizations, I have played several sports in high school, in my junior and senior years I settled on my two favorite sports, track and field, and volleyball. Within these sports I have made friendships with my teammates I will never forget, and learned important lessons in humbleness when winning, and cohere with my friends when losing. By being a member of any sports teams at my high school, I regularly attended many of my school’s events, giving me the opportunity to develop relationships, and gain a tremendous sense of pride in my school. I am looking forward to bringing this same sense of pride to my college, and making many new friendships along the way. I learned over the course of my education to this point, that when I became more involved with these activities, my performance in the classroom increased alongside my…
