Hotel Rwanda Themes
I think the Mission is a superb movie to watch and has all the factors to a great movie. The movie takes place in South America in the 18th century. Two extraordinary powers are going after the hearts and brains of the local Indians. From one perspective, there are the Portuguese, who need to set up an exchange of wealth and slaves. Then again, there are the Priest, who need to convert the Indians to Christians. The missionaries are an ideal societies in which Christian natives will live in harmony with the Spanish and Portuguese. The main theme of this story is the power of friendship and redemption. The movie has shown these two important themes through various ways. The Guaraní Indians is a great example of the theme of redemption. Christian …show more content…
The power of friendship was portrayed by the bond between the Guaraní Indians and the priests on the mission. Even though they lost at the end of the battle, they worked together to create battle strategies that will help them decrease the number of soldiers in their army. Last year I saw the movie Hotel Rwanda and it shown the same attributes like The Mission. Even though these two movies were in different time periods the theme hope and friendship carried over. In Hotel Rwanda, the hotel manager was the only hope for the refugee Hutu’s. In the Mission the Guaraní Indians hope to live in their current home and not move back to their forest. The director uses lights to reflect the beauty of Iguazu Falls and to paint a picture of the lifestyle back then. In one scene Mendoza climbs the waterfall and has a heavy bag of armor and swords tied to him. The bag represents his old life and all the terrible qualities. As Mendoza climbed to the top of the waterfall the bag was cut off showing that he is leaving his old habits and life. Robert De Niro and the whole acting cast really brought all their characters to life. When watching the movie, you can really feel that you are in that

From this book, my stereotype about mission is totally changed. Before reading this book, I thought that the major purpose of mission makes people having conversion, and medical care and any other welfare works are minor. Personally, I am inspired by Yayori Matsui. I am a Korean, so several Korean women who suffered sex slavery through Japanese military are still alive. Their traumatic wounds are not cured because Japanese’s government has not had proper apology and adequate repentance, rather attempting to distort the history. Matsui,…

Hotel Rwanda tackles a recent event in history where the Hutu extremists of Rwanda initiated a terrifying campaign of genocide, massacring approximately 800,000 minority Tutsi who had been given total power by the Belgian colonists, while the rest of the world looked on and did nothing. The Hutu killed the Tutsi people because they thought the Tutsi were being excessively rude to them. It is important to recognize the similarities in Night and Hotel Rwanda because if we did not keep a close watch on these prejudice actions, the world would be a very bitter and non-diverse place. Night and Hotel Rwanda are both based on true stories about genocide and share similar situations such as the Nazis and Hutus called the Jews and the Tutsis degrading names, the Jews and Tutsis had to travel in tight spaces, and watching people get badly beaten by the Nazis and the Hutus.…

It actually has a direct connection with Darwinism. “Long before Strong’s gloss of a divine command was added to the idea of mission, it had been sanctified by the only nineteenth-century “prophet” who mattered to the political thought of the American mission: Charles Darwin”(Ceaser, 20). Now if “The Mission” could be used as a religious idea as well as an idea based around Charles Darwin, then the phrase is as vague and problematic as “exceptionalism.” That brings us back to where we started, confusion, improper usage, and vague…

While in a foreign country, one can build wells, vaccinate, donate, educate, and share the Christian faith. Working to improve the lives of poorer nations also has tremendous rewards for the volunteers. You will get so much more than you give. Volunteering abroad will broaden your perspective, give you a chance to see the benefits of your donation, and change your life forever by giving you a competitive edge in the job market, developing unique friendships, and strengthening your relationship with God.…
