Home Game Michael Lewis Summary
This short excerpt from Home Game by Michael Lewis was hilarious and incredibly relatable considering I have a six and four-year-old sister. Lewis put a lot of description in this story, I could feel his embarrassment and shock as if I were him. The language in this story was very “colorful” but that’s what made it even more funny for me. I literally laughed out loud a few times while reading this story.
My favorite part of the story was when Dixie informs the teasing boys that they should watch out because she peed in the pool two times and she didn’t care what they thought…my kind of girl. I also liked how Lewis compared himself to a crocodile as he watched Dixie go off on the teasing boys. I surprised how at the end Lewis explains how

I remember when I was young and my grandmother decided to take me to the library with her. She put me into “The Little Readers Club” while she went off to look for books to read. In the club we were told to look for a book and read it and then share what the book was about. I remember getting up and look at all the shelves filled with thousands and thousands of books. I remember thinking, “how could a person write so much and not run out of words?” putting aside my curiousity, I searched for a book and found a book called “Spaghetti in a hot dog bun.” After I picked the book I came and sat down and saw all the other kids smiling and reading their books like they were professionals as I sat there not knowing how to read at all. I felt dumb at the moment and unfit, so all I did was look at the pictures and try to come up with what I thought the story was about. When it came to sharing time; I was too embarrassed to tell the club leader that I didn’t read my story because I couldn’t read. So when it came to my turn to share my story I stood up and said, “My book is about a girl that likes….uh…” I just stood there and froze; I realized that I never knew what the characters in the book liked or what. I stood there as everybody stared at me as I slowly felt myself tearing up. When I finally couldn’t handle the embarrassment, I ran and hid myself behind two big shelves and didn’t come out until I heard my grandmother calling…

I really enjoyed reading this book and feel that it is the best book to read. This is my favorite book I have ever read and after reading this I really liked the movie. I would give this story a 10/10 because it was a great story about a group of kids surviving on their own and trying to fit into their town. My favorite part was when they got into that big fight at the end. I liked this because they did it for Johnny plus they kicked the crap out of the Soc’s. I found this funny because they beat them up when the Soc’s thought they were going to win, but also a way to show love for Johnny because they did it for him and wanted to win for…

It’s the 1940’s; 1944 to be exact. You’ve been drifting in and out of a variety of camps, struggling to stay as alive and hopeful as possible. The days and nights are starting to blend together into a gray smudge, and your will to live is beginning to dissipate. This was the constant struggle of the Jewish people during the second World War. Every waking moment was spent in constant fear and misery, Now, does that compare to being taken from your home and having to pursue your own entertainment? Two children, Elie and Shorty, survived these trials and lived to tell the tale. In “Night”, by Elie Wiesel, and “Baseball Saved Us”, by Ken Mochizuki, both of the main characters experienced things that changed the way they viewed a variety of subjects.…

In “What’s in a Package,” Thomas Hine presents a series of claims that inform the reader as to why manufacturers package products the way they do. His first paragraphs encourage readers to imagine themselves pushing a shopping cart, and state that within “the thirty minutes you spend on an average trip to the supermarket, about thirty thousand different products vie to win your attention.” He breaks it down further to help the readers understand: thirty thousand products in thirty minutes is equal to one thousand per minute. Thomas Hine explores the active relationship between a package and its meaningful cycle in society as we know it.…

I felt that by listening to Flannery O’Conner read this story aloud I was able to become more emotionally attached to this story. The humor was very evident in the reading but did not bring out a verbal response from me. I did find myself laughing aloud once or twice when I was listening to the reading. I found the one detail that I had not noticed in the previous reading was that The Misfit kept the cat at the end of the…

I had seen what could quite possibly be the most amusing sight in my whole life this afternoon. As I had watched through my "spy hole" as I liked to call it, two young boys were standing a ways down the street with a little girl running towards them with a tire. "I'm first!" the little girl had proclaimed. I had wondered what they were up to but thankfully I didn't have to wait long. The little girl folded herself into the tire. The eldest of the boys went behind the tire and pushed it! I couldn't believe my eyes? They had just rolled the poor girl down a hill in a tire! After a moment I had realized that they were simply playing a game! I had watched silently, as the two boys ran down the hill as fast as they could, without gravity making them fall, after the girl in the tire. I had continued watching with my eyes wide as she eventually fell out into my yard. Her small body had lain on the ground for a couple of minutes, and I had thought in that split second that those fools had seriously hurt her, but she had quickly shaken off any pain or confusion she had, what with the boys yelling at her like they were. "Scout, get away from there, come on!" The panic in his voice had scared me somewhat; I had never experienced that type of caring before. The girl – Scout – had rolled her head to the side, and raised it ever so slightly, and had looked straight towards the house I reside in currently. Her eyes had gone wide as saucers while her mouth had formed an 'O' shape. It had been rude of me, but I had smirked at her expression. "Come on, Scout, don't just lie there!" The oldest boy had screamed. "Get up, can'tcha?"Scout had risen to her feet as quickly as she could; trembling violently as she navigated her way from the yard. "Get the tire!" The same boy had yelled. "Bring it with you! Ain't you got any sense at all?" I had felt sorry for her, but I couldn't help myself. It had been so long since I had felt like that and that instinctual need to let my…
