5. (6 points): What are two suggestions that you would give a retailer that caters mostly to men (e.g., The Home Depot, Best Buy) to be better at attracting female shoppers? The first thing these stores can do is hire more females as employees. If a woman is newly divorced and enters The Home Depot to fix her broken deck and only sees male employees, she is likely to be discouraged about her ability to fix the deck. If female employees are not knowledgeable enough to work at the store, how is she supposed to find in her new independence and do something that is typically known as man’s work? Simply by implementing female employees the industry will appear less intimidating to women and they will be more likely to ask questions that lead to purchases. …show more content…
When going to buy a drill they generally come in orange, black, red, and occasionally lime green. Those choices do not scream female users. Similarly, Best buy’s store only utilizes colors that are generally associated as masculine. The bold royal blue and yellow do not leave opportunity for some neutral colors to intervene. The company could play with utilizing more grey’s, greens, whites and brighter blues. Consequently, the store is not suddenly turning their color scheme pink, but they are utilizing softer colors that would be more considered gender neutral.
