High School Students Taking a Gap Year

Preparing our students for college is a main priority in our society. It is getting more and more difficult to obtain a job and be successful without at least having a bachelors degree. This is mainly why high schools focus on preparing students for college, but sometimes this does not turn out to be the outcome. While many students can successfully make the transition between high school and college, many are not able to do the same. It is the responsibility of our education systems to prepare students to go to college and to give them the tools they need. One solution to this problem is to provide more opportunities for students to be tested before they graduate high school.
Also, providing students with a “gap year”­ a year between high school. High school students should take a year off before college. Being prepared for higher education is critical for future success; to ensure that students are prepared to attend college they need to be tested regularly in school and have a gap year after attending high school. (American Gap) Gap Years first originated in the UK in the 70 's as a way to kill time between final exams and the beginning of a new school year. Gap Years then became more favored in the US in the early 80 's thanks to the founder of Interim
Programs, Cornelius H. Bull. Gap years continued to thrive throughout the 80s and early 90s and as time went on the history of the gap year started to change. Due to the gap year, backpacking started to become the popular thing to do. Backpacking is an
