I have really enjoyed my practicum hours, observing and learning from the counselors at West High School. Many of my observations surrounded graduation and A-G requirements. Several of the counselors were going through the transcripts of their sophomores and juniors to see if they were still on track to graduate. Then, they would call in those they needed to meet with and talk to them individually. The solution for several that I sat in with was to add a zero period class. The counselors took two days to call in all of the English classes. They went over the differences between high school graduation requirements and A-G requirements needed to enter a CSU or UC school. Then, we handed out their transcripts, went over their gpa, and…

The setting that I chose to observe is a Sunday morning Methodist Church service that included a baptism. It is Sunday morning at 6am and the church is pretty crowded. The candidates that are awaiting baptism are lined up on the front pew of the church; and they are all dressed in white. The reverend is speaking at the front of the church and he is dressed in white as well. The candidates are of a mixed crowd consisting of men, woman, teens, boys and girls.…

Effective instruction requires teachers to be knowledgeable of the content in which they are teaching. When instruction is effective teachers are aware of different learning styles along with the various methods of teaching strategies to meet the needs of the all students. At Deerfield Beach High School we use a common board configuration in our reading department that I feel is very effective. Everyone uses the same terminology along with the same format. Collaborative planning plays a big role in our effective instruction. The learning goal and learning is clearly stated in student friendly vocabulary so that students can understand and own them. Students have a very clear understanding of what the long and short term goals are and what…

On Thursday, September 17, I went to Hillcrest Elementary/Visual Performing and Arts School to observe Mrs. Mary Jackson’s music class. When I got there the students were sitting in their chair and learning about the music notes AGF. I saw two Special Education Teachers in the class and they told me that they were here to help the exceptional students. These notes are short notes and high pitch notes. After the lecture, Mrs. Jackson had the student watch and learn the song “Fiddle Eye Fee” in which it had animal puppets singing. Every time the chicken puppet came on, it would sing “Fiddle Eye Fee” and the teacher would sing along and play the xylophone. After the demonstration, the teacher had each row of students play the xylophone. As the…

For my classroom observation, I chose to observe two classrooms with teachers I do not work with at my current job Bobbie Smith Elementary in Long Beach, CA. My area of interest is elementary, I chose to observe a Kindergarten and Second grade classroom. Although I prefer to teach a Kindergarten class and not go over the Second grade, I know that teachers never get a pick of what grades you teach sometimes. So I am glad that I am able to gain experience in each grade level.…

When observing Jack’s psychosocial traits and behaviors, he was content and quite. Jack would just lay in your arms and look around. As we know Jack is unable to talk, but he would make little noises and small coos. He was relaxed and didn’t cry the whole time I was observing him. However, his mother says he does cry or make a rooting noise, but only when he needs care. When his mother let me hold him, he didn’t cry like I thought he would. I thought Jack would have cried if other people held him except for his parents, but instead Jack showed a sense of trust for me. I got to feed Jack as well with a bottle, and he didn’t even cry when I took it away. He likes being wrapped in a blanket and kept warm. Jack stayed awake the whole time I was observing him. He was alert and seemed to be a happy baby. He would have a little grin when I would try and talk to him. When Jack’s mother would talk to him, you could tell he knew that it was her because his…

In everyday life the brain processes information according to a logical subconscious code, even in the simplest of operations such as identifying an object. The brain might perceive a box in its first stage of its analysis, in which the neurons will transmit observations to the brain. This in turn stimulates reflection about whether it is simply an empty box or whether it may have some type of content. The brain will answer this question in attempt to come up with a theory of what may be the in the box given certain clues and knowledge acquired during it’s reflection. If the box had small holes on its surface one might theorize that there is a living being in the box because of their need for oxygen. In many cases of a common object, the brain…
