Hermit Crab Short Story
“Hmmmm doesn’t this hermit crab look like a Zebra?” “What?” my mom asked. “The hermit crab” I repeated. “Oh, yes, very nice Kiel,.” My mom is almost impossible to get off her book. She is like trying to pry off a small deep nail with only your hands. I gazed beyond the horizon feeling how hot the sand was, and the salty smell that burned my nostrils. Then, I took another look at the hermit crab, my mom and I started toward the ocean, hoping to find more knick knacks to put …show more content…
A seagull had almost ran into my face. I had almost stepped on an odd looking crab if it had not been for those seagulls. It was an orange crab with red spots, black claws, and odd looking eyes. I tried to touch it but then the tide came in. SPLASH the water just swept me away. The water had only brought me in the ocean about 3 feet, until I washed upon shore. But when the water cleared up, I saw an object buried underneath seaweed. “What the heck is that” is what I said as I untangled the slimy seaweed. In cursive writing it read MELLVILLE UNDERWATER CAMERA. It was covered in seaweed and barnacles. I can’t believe someone made a camera that can go underwater and not get a dent on it. I ran over to Mom and Dad yelling “Look at what I found”. This time Mom actually rose up from her book. As if the dead had rosen. I showed them the camera and they looked puzzled. “Let’s tell the lifeguard” she said. We showed the lifeguard who also looked puzzled. He said “I don’t know what to say kid you found it not me.” So that did not work. I was hoping he would know what to do, someone could be missing an awesome underwater camera but still no

I was freaked out and picked up my head and blinked rapidly. I saw nothing but blue for miles and miles, the sky and the water. When I looked down I saw nothing but a small black and orange rubber dingy. I tried to think about what had happened. It was then when I realized I couldn't even remember my own name. Then panic just settled in for some reason I jumped in the water freaking out. I came to my senses and quickly started using all my strength to hurdle myself in the dingy.…

Horseshoe crabs are not the prettiest creatures, nor are they the most well-respected. No conservation organization has one of these homely sea-goers as their mascot, but they should. The wave was murky coming towards like a rigid and supreme barrier. It began to coil over, he looked up the wave loomed over him. His father’s words came back to him giving him an urge of determination “a true mariner never deserts a sinking ship.” It heaved itself onto his boat. The boat shredded apart, jagged pieces of timber where floating and he was left sinking. His boat had plunged into the depths of the enigmatic ocean. The salted sea pricked at his delicate eyes and his spectral face white washed. He was crawling for breath kicking his feet neurotically. He managed to clench onto a residue of his boat his naked fingers scratching the plank and splinters dashing up his finger nails. For him time felt suspended. His clothes saturated with water clinging on and sticking onto his skin. He was wrinkling like a prune. He had a vacant expression, solitude was conquering him. He had to overcome this despair as the turbulence of the storm…

A niche is a species and their position in their habitat or ecosystem, having a specialized strength that no other species have or does. Why it’s important in biodiversity? Species have different preys and predators because how diverse the energy web is. An example between two organisms and their position in their habitat would be the relationship between a sea anemone and a hermit crab. The sea anemone can either be a predator trying to catch prey when walking into the mouth. As hermit crabs can be vulnerable, the two species can also have a symbiotic relationship the sea anemone can live off the shell of the hermit crab. This shows commensalism because being on the shell of the hermit crab doesn’t affect the sea anemone but the hermit crabs’ protection increases.…

After hours of sitting out on the dock, my cousins and I were getting tired. So, we decided to see who could catch a fish first, and then we’ll be able to go inside. It took us another hour in order for one of us to catch a fish. During that hour, there was a lot of frustration and yawning. Since we all gave up on trying to find a manatee, we began to bring in all of the plates that were once filled with food and the fishing poles. But, as soon as we started to get everything together, we heard a noise coming from the water that sounded like something was breathing. Well, to our surprise, that was the sea cow we were hoping to see. The sky around us was too dark to see near us, and the tiny lanterns on the dock didn’t help too…
