A new life started for the German immigrant Alda, a 28 year old woman from Munich, Germany who immigrated New York, New York in 1811.
So, Alda how has New York been so far, good, bad, or difficult?
“Well Lillian, life here has been very difficult, my daughter Adalia who is only 11 years old has had to work at some factories, very dangerous jobs I must say, but it is so far been a good experience, but it has been a very difficult and emotional journey.”
Why would you say it has been an emotional journey?
“When my daughter and I came here to america the only valuables we brought were the clothes on our backs and each other. My 2 sons died on the trip here. The oldest, Hernando sadly died 2 days after we got here to America from malnutrition.
