Personal Goals
My professional and personal goals are to expand my nursing career and obtain a position in the healthcare field where I will own and operate a long term care facility or adult daycare facility that specializes in the care of patients with behavioral issues or Alzheimer’s disease so I can give back to my community and help those in need.
I started my career in the healthcare field as a unit clerk. My primary duties were answering the telephone and call light system. After about a year, I wanted to do more so I decided to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA). My duties as a CNA entailed helping patients/residents with their activities of daily living. I quickly realized that I did not want to play that particular role in the healthcare field and that I needed to do more. I applied for the licensed practical nurse program and was accepted. After graduating and passing my state board exam, I worked as a licensed practical nurse for six and a half years before applying for the associate degree nursing program for registered nurses. I was accepted and after completion my career as a registered nurse began. …show more content…
I feel my community will greatly benefit from a facility dedicated to these healthcare needs. I see patients that are mentally challenged and some who have Alzheimer’s that need help with their activities of daily living or just with care in general. Helping others that cannot help themselves is what I enjoy doing. I understand opening a long term care facility will take a great deal of planning from obtaining licensure, to locating perfect area, and securing contractors to build.     My name is Jennifer Mast when I was three years old my sister was born when she came out the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck three times she was dead, but they brought her back to life after that she had seizures every three minutes of the day she had spent a lot of time in the hospital and so did I. when she had turned five years old we drove to California so my sister could get half of her brain removed so the seizures would stop. As a eight year old child does I asked the doctors and nurses plenty of questions I even asked what they were going to do with her brain and if I could see it. Watching the doctors and nurses work on my sister at such a young age helping to save my sisters life made me want to pursue a job in nursing ever since I was a young girl. I want to help people and their families like they had helped us. So I begun in high school I attended vocational school to become a nurses aid. I have been a nurse aid for seven years. I have also been a med-tech for the past three years. I have worked in different fields as a nurses aid. I have worked in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and home health care. They all were very enjoy able jobs. I would make a go licensed practical nurse because I care about people wants and needs and I am compassionate about the job I do and how its done. To heel some who is sick or injured or just a family member who needs someone to talk to or a shoulder to cry on I am always there to help.     The application process was scary for me because I was nervous about the responsibilities I would encounter as a CNA. One person who really helped me was my boyfriend’s mom, Susan. Susan was a nurse for thirty-four years and I reached out to her because of the many years of experience she had. She had told me that the smartest thing to do in the journey to becoming a nurse practitioner was to start out as a CNA and then, after completing high school, enrolling in a LPN program and then furthering on from there. I also talked to my cousin who is a diagnostic medical sonographer and she had told me if I wanted to become a nurse, taking classes that apply and working as a CNA is my best option.
