Happiness Article Summary
The article I read and am about to summarize is about happiness and how you can become happier. Many people believe simply finding the right partner, achieving success professionally, or acquiring wealth can achieve happiness. In contrast, many others believe there are many factors contributing to an individual’s happiness. Scientists have tried to answer questions about happiness such as does it favor a certain age or sex, or does is come with satisfying close relationships? Some researchers ask their subjects to report their feelings so they are bluntly stated, while others measure frequencies of people’s happiness and feelings. Some even believe happy people can be in denial of their misery, only putting a smile on their face because they believe they are supposed to. Experts that have been interviewed believe only twenty percent of Americans are happy, while another research study showed that one-third of Americans wake up depressed everyday and only ten to fifteen percent of Americans are actually happy. Interviews with people show that no specific time in your life is happier or unhappier. The happiness of a person depends n their lifestyle and their own effort to change how they feel. Although money can’t literally buy happiness, many agree money would make them a little bit happier. But are wealthy people happier overall? In poorer countries, if an individual can afford the necessities of life, having more money means very little because they already have much more than some people around them. Studies even show that lottery winners gain only temporary happiness. Another viewpoint is from victims of tragedies. Many negative, emotional impacts can eventually return to a state of happiness. Some even believe you can become happier if your culture becomes or is wealthier.
