HMG-Competitive Inhibitors
Statins are HMG-CoA competitive inhibitors, and they consist of seven different agents: rosuvastatin, atorvastatin, lovastatin, simvastatin, pravastatin, fluvastain, and pitavastatin.
The first two are long–lasting inhibitors and the next three drugs are more specific and reversible competitive inhibitors.
When the synthesis of cholesterol in the liver is decreased, the LDL receptor synthesis is unregulated and clearance of LDL from plasma into liver cells is increased.
