Grundy County: A Case Study
To be able to take part in the government day with the EMA Director of Grundy County would be a phenomenal opportunity. If I were chosen, the pleasure of meeting the director would be truly mine.
This career is extremely important, almost vital to our towns and cities in Grundy County considering it manages and controls emergency situations and disasters in Grundy. It prepares plans and procedures to use in response to naturals disasters, and crises. Also, if there were a hostage situation, a technological issue throughout our area, or need for training, the EMA Director would be who handles it all.
I am interested in this career because it is in the field of treating and helping others. I enjoy helping others and being able to safely control

    Denton County Case Study

Denton County’s status as a metropolitan city is interesting due it’s socioeconomic patterns. The county is in the state of Texas, where a large percentage of the population is not classified as urban, yet a large proportion of the land area is classified as urban. The opposite, however, is true for Denton County, whose urban population percentage is even higher than that of the United States and while its urban area is significantly lower, than that of Texas, it still exceeds the urban area percentage of the United States as well. This is possibly because while Denton County is a metropolitan city, the metropolitan center is in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Those who need to work in this area would settle somewhere nearby and Denton County’s proximity to both these cities makes it a prime location for urban workers, with over 50% of the workers in Denton commuting outside of the county to work.…

The role of major health personnel in an emergency is to manage the safety and well being of the people in their community during and after a natural or man-made disaster. This is done by assessing the details of what occurred, what needs must be met and facilitating a team to organize information about the event and provide logistics as quickly as possible. This is seen in the simulation exercise for the “Disaster in Franklin County”. (Olson, Larsen, Scheller, & Johnson, 2006) Roles are appointed in a chain of command format. It is ideal that all personnel have received some type of emergency management training, but even if not, skill sets must be assessed and duties assigned accordingly. An Incident Commander will be appointed and the Public Health Director assigns rolls that include finances, planning, logistics, public information liaison and operators. The Public Health Team will work closely and concurrently with other entities, such as the Fire Chief, Police Chief, Hazardous Materials Team, Public Works and EMS teams. The public health department is mostly concerned with the safety and logistics of sheltering victims and being sure that food and water provided is safe for consumption.…

When I was a young child, I witnessed my sister receiving stitches on her head. We were jumping on my bed when she fell and hit her head on the headboard. I was inspired by the medical professionals who treated her. Although this was a traumatic experience, it helped shape my aspiration to help others. Serving and improving the lives of others is a fundamental duty that I believe should be a part of everyone’s personal mission. Working in healthcare is the path that I discovered as an ideal way to accomplish this goal of service. In particular, I intend to eventually become an anesthesiologist where I will assist patients during medical procedures.…
