Greg Ousley was 14 years old when he killed his parents on February 23, 1993. Greg came home one day and had an argument with his parents in which he later locked himself in his room. Greg’s father, Jobie, knocked on the room for quite a while and found it to be no use so he just left. However, his mother was worried about him so she unlocked the door. Greg was laughing in his mother’s face as she was trying to comfort him. Greg’s mother, Bonnie, asked, “What's wrong honey? What’s going on with you? Talk to me. Just talk to me” (Anderson). Like any other normal mom she was worried about her son, but she definitely didn’t have any ordinary son. Greg told his mother that all he could think about was suicide and murder. Greg killed his parents with a “12- gauge shotgun”. He shot his father in the head which killed him immediately and shot his mom twice in the head.Greg knew that what he had done was wrong because he tried to cover it up and make it seem like his parents were murdered by someone else. He knew that he would be sent to jail. Greg lied when the police questioned him about what happened, Greg said that he had just returned home from a “late night joy ride” and found his parents dead. Greg had finally confessed that he killed his parents and was only sentenced to 60 years in prison but it got reduced because he plead for a “ sentence modification” and now he might get “released from prison years before his eligibility date of March 2019” (Anderson). Greg should have gotten the death penalty but he didn’t because he was only a minor. Age must not be an excuse to commit murder. If Greg killed people as important as his parents then what makes people think that he won’t do it to a stranger or even a friend. Greg says that he is sorry, but actions speak louder than words.
