In unit 1, pages 1-17, of "Mythology Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes,"by Edith Hamilton, he states, "The Greeks did not believe that the gods created the universe. It was the other way about: the universe created gods. Before there were gods heaven and earth had been formed. They were the first parents. The Titans were their children, and the gods were their grandchildren," (17). This passage "fits" into the novel because it adds to the setting. According to the Greeks , heaven and earth was born before any gods existed. Therefore, the father heaven and mother Earth gave birth to all other life, leading to the creation other Gods. The importance of this passage to the book's message is that it explains the key components that created our universe, according to the Greeks. Remarkably, I was surprised that the Greeks believed that Gods were only created because of our universe. This makes me wonder if this is true and rise questions in my head. Also, knowing that I live in a world where lots of religions are worshiped, I know that christianity is by most the most followed religion in our world. Christianity is a religion that is based on life and on the teachings of only one God, Jesus. The reason why I'm bringing this up is because people who are Christians, know the story of how Jesus died for us on the holy cross and how God, his father, made Earth. For that reason, it's hard to even believe that our world might've gave birth to our Gods. Myths like theses are so astonishing to learn about because we may never know the real truth.
