For a city to be sustainable, managing its waste efficiently whilst causing the least possible damage to the environment is imperative. The amount of waste produced by the global population is steadily increasing resulting in a continual problem over how and where to dispose of this waste. Targets have already been made such as European Union laws, UK national plans and strategies and at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992 (Agenda 21). Currently, most domestic waste ends up in landfill sites, and the general aim has been to avoid this as much as possible. Waste management methods vary widely according to different areas due to various reasons such as type of waste material, nearby land uses and the area available. Methods could include reducing the amount of waste, reusing goods to extend their lifespan, recovering value and disposing of waste in landfill sites.…

Recycling: recycling is not only about waste control; it is also part of the possible conservation of resources to repairing damage on the environment. Over the last few years there has been much talk about recycling and its impact however there is still a number of individuals who still do not know how recycling can help the environment. The earth has to work hard to produce and meet the needs of the growing population; people will need to work to preserve the resources the earth has in order to ensure that the environment as we know will still be around for future populations.…

Inadequate teaching about recycling affects many public schools. Teachers spend a meager amount of time explaining the different facets of recycling to students, thus giving children the impression that recycling is as simple as placing waste in a blue bin, when in reality these students may not sufficiently learn how and what to recycle. In AP Environmental Science, the curriculum spends little to no time testing over recycling, despite the fact that recycling plays a major role in ecological awareness. Ironically, Environmental Science left me with an immense amount of papers in my binder by the end of the year, and in a class with no recycling bin, I ventured to the other side of the building just to recycle. Many students in my class did not throw away their recyclable materials in the right container due to the amount of effort and time that it would take. Considering the amount of materials that can be recycled, the number of un-recycled materials around the world…

In the world there are many problems, but one that is really important is our landfills overflowing with waste material which causes more problems for the planet. This problem can be solved with a simple fix: recycling recyclable material and not throwing them out with the rest of the garbage. To get more familiar with the term “recycling,” it is defined by Jacqueline Vaughn as the following, “recycling generally refers to the separation of materials in the waste stream so that some of those materials can be reused” (14). The term can now be clearly understood to know what recycling actually relates to. Recycling is important aspect to consider because of so much waste that can be recycled goes into landfills instead and pretty soon they will reach their maximum capacity and more waste dumps will be needed to deal with all the waste material that people choose to through away. People need to get more aware about this problem, which has been successful throughout the years, and need to recycle because recycling can be helpful. Some of the ways recycling can be helpful is that the benefits it brings to our environment benefits by reducing waste, the recycled material can be used again several times, and helping prevent the harmful pollutants that enter our ecosystem and contaminating our drinking water.…

Whether you think that recycling effects everyone or not, recycling makes a difference. We can work together to make earth a better place. It’s the right thing to do. Recycling involves processing materials into new products in order to prevent potentially useful materials. This reduces the consumption of fresh raw material, reduce energy usage and water pollution. Recycling is a key component of modern waste management. Recycling is the 3rd word in ‘reduce, reuse and Recycle’, the last word and to get to the last word we have to start with the first two.…

Did you know that we have a BIG problem in our world? The problem is that there is too much waste being produced by humans. Waste is left over material like paper, lunch bags, cans, bottles, plastic bags, wood and metal. Waste is stuff we throw into the garbage because we do not want to use it no more. It's stinky and filling up the landfill sites. We are littering and polluting the land, water and the air we breathe. It's just too easy to throw papers and other stuff you don't need on the ground. Too much garbage hurts our environment and the animals. When the landfills are full, where are we going to put all that garbage?! We don't want it in our backyard! Instead of recycling, we throw most of our waste away. People litter too much and create too much air pollution. Nobody cares about our world anymore. The problem is that people are throwing away things that can be recycled or composted, like plastic, bottles, cans and apple cores. More people need to learn how to recycle so that there is less waste. Many people still don't care enough to do anything about this problem. Many people simply don't want to recycle. We need to get more people involved in recycling to make a big difference - to make our planet a nice, clean and better place. Everyone needs to take better care of the world and think about the world's future. Think about it. People really need to use the four R's: Recycle, Reuse, Reduce and Rethink. Our class has thought about other R's: Repair, Reclaim and Responsibility. Some people are trying to make a difference by using these R's as much as they can...…

Adopt the 3Rs of solid waste management: reduce, reuse and recycle. Inorganic materials such as metals, glass and plastic; also organic materials like paper, can be reclaimed and recycled. This takes into account that the proven solution to the problem of proper waste management (especially in third world countries) is proper disposal (in waste bins for collection and not in the street where it could fall into drains), waste segregation and collection, and recycling.…
