The church does not have any hymn-books, rather they have a music superintendent who leads them into the songs. As the leader says one line, the entire church will repeat it in a chorus. Additionally, the reverend would ask God to help the ill, but rather than saying that generally, he focuses on more specific cases.…

    My Philosophy of Ministry

The first part of my philosophy of ministry is to teach believers in the knowledge and the ways of Jesus Christ. Every member in the church has gifts. They need to understand their gifts and if you have the gift to teach, be trained in the work of the ministry. Teaching God’s people to do the work of the ministry takes place through the teaching of Scripture (2 Tim. 3:16-17).…

This past Sunday I went to Snyder Moral Baptist church to hear the music of Joel Raney. Joel is a very emotional performer I could tell he is very in touch with God. While I was there I learned that he began his career in Alabama by cutting his teeth on hymns and gospel music. He attended Juilliard School in NYC where he also worked in musical theater for a time. Listening to Joel’s music made me feel closer to God, he made me think about the finer things in life through his music. Like having a close relationship with God and letting God know I am what he has made me to be. He made me think about my faith a lot more about how being a Christian isn’t all about showing up at church. Being a Christian is…

It’s funny how flexible and versatile music is. Music is thrash metal emanating from a pair of iPod headphones, with the intent of getting someone motivated for a long workout, and a soothing lullaby sung by a mother to her child. Music is the sunny chirpings of pretty morning melodies by the birds, and the soft pitter-patter of rain—nature’s music. And on May 4th, music was the choirs of CLC putting together all of the hard work of the semester for the few who are willing to listen. For me, choir music was always to be heard, but never to actually be listened to for any enjoyment. But that night, I was one of those willing few. Attending the College of Lake County Spring Choral Concert made me realize how essential it is to recognize the beauty in versatility in music.…

The poetry “Amazing Grace” by John Newton is one of the most famous poems ever written and composed. “Amazing Grace” has been particularly influential and has affected lives since it was written. The reasons why “Amazing Grace” is influential are for the same reasons why I found this poem very interesting and engaging. The literary elements that attributed to the poem’s quality and importance are its form, content, and tone. Most people that live in the modern generation view choral music as old, boring harmonies whose composers died with kings. However, choral music is not just for the elderly singing hymns apathetically in the church pews on Sunday morning. Though the perception of it remains unenthusiastic among common listeners, the life of choral music is not as dead or boring as most would assume. Choral music is made modern, enjoyable, and vibrant through the works of contemporary composers. Although it is not as recognized in modern generations, brilliant vocal compositions and composers still exist today.…
