GPPA prepare students with a head start and continuous support towards a successful career through the guidance of medical advisors, professors, and additional resources while working with talented students. I embody an ideal candidate because I want to be a doctor specialized in heart diseases. GPPA will provide me with the opportunity and inspiration to accomplish more as a specialized doctor. It is personal for me to be a heart specialist as my own father was a victim of his heart condition. I am not discouraged by additional years of research and the time it takes to study but this program can give me that edge I need. Consequently, I chose UIC’s GPPA because its medical center is situated in Chicago, a city surrounded by facilities where resources such as hands-on practice and professional faculty are available to help me master my career. Experience from these different facilities will expose me to various aspects of the medical field.
Furthermore, GPPA will keep me focused and committed to my career path. A guaranteed seat will encourage me to be a better student every day and maintain my GPA throughout my undergrad studies. Additionally, I want to make an impact on people’s lives with my passion to make a difference. My college years will be a critical time in my life, and I must focus every year I spend to

My ultimate goal is to be a specialized doctor. I’m pursuing medicine as a result of my dad who died of his heart condition. Since he was young, his heart condition was unbeknownst to the family due to the absence of advanced medicine and facilities in our village in China. I was only one year old, when my father passed away. He couldn't make it because the nearest hospital was hours away and my family simply couldn’t afford the treatment. If he was diagnosed and treated early on, or if China had affordable, widespread hospitals and medical education this could have been

After completing the pharmacy residency IPPE, I feel like I have a much better understanding of how residency training is structured and how it can benefit me as a pharmacist. Visiting the hospital was helpful because it allowed us to talk with a variety of both PGY1 and PGY2 residents about not only the academic aspects of residency but also the more practical concerns such as finances and family balance. I felt that these conversations were both enlightening and comforting.…

Ever since I transferred to the University of Miami as an undergrad, I have had the gratification and honor to meet and work with various remarkable people, from physicians to scientists and staff. Doing research and shadowing at Miami Miller School of Medicine gave me the prospect to admire how marvelous the school and its community are. Furthermore, I have had the satisfaction to meet several professors who teach at the medical school and the prospect of learning from them is enticing. Being able to experience first-hand the compassion and care that the doctors at Miller demonstrate their patients have also confirmed that this school is not short of role models for me to follow. As I was looking for a Physician Assistant program I focused on three main things: research, prestige, and location. I was fortunate enough to discover that Yale PA program exceeded my expectations. As a clinical research assistant, I have had the pleasure to work with great clinicians (doctors and physician assistants alike) who have graduated from Yale Medical School and Yale PA program. Their perseverance, ability to react efficiently and decisively in difficult situations are some of the many qualities that Yale highlights and solidifies in its programs. Furthermore, shadowing one of the physician assistants who graduated from the Yale program gave me a better insight on the rigorously, expectations, and preparations of Yale PA program.…

"Make a difference today for someone who is fighting for their tomorrow"-Jim Kelly. Growing up residing in a small, under populated rural area I noticed how my community lacked access to health facilities and providers. Noting that this was a necessity to have, yet so scarce, I decided that being a health care provider was the career for me. I grew up always surrounded by the health care setting; my mother was a Lab Technician who worked with several Physician Assistants. I was often in her office during after school hours of my elementary/middle school years.…

I vividly remember being in sixth grade extremely jealous of the eighth graders being able to dissect a pig while we as sixth graders got a worm. The anxiousness killed me knowing I had to wait two years but it was well worth the wait. I was always on time because I knew I wanted to get first pick on every set of instruments and specimen. I always lead our group and was always the first to make incisions while everyone else was grossed out. That’s when I realized I discovered something I truly enjoyed.…

My goal as a DFPS worker would be to help ensure that the people in need and their family can be successful, even in the most difficult situations. There are two instances in my life that has inspired me to gain interest in medicine. My grandmother when I was around the age of twelve received double bypass surgery and I fell in love with the physician who took care of her. The physician was a middle aged woman who was one of the kindest person I have ever met, and she gave us the news of how everything went fine during surgery. She also gave us great confidence in how my grandmother would return to normal soon. The look on my parents and aunts face when she gave the news gave me goosebumps and to this day I feel the same goosebumps when I think about this. I just wanted to one day be in a position to deliver good news to a family and to see that “look” of relief on their faces. Another…

During the first year post graduation I need to take and pass my licensure exam in July. After I pass my licensure exam I hope to find a full time, part-time or PRN job at an acute care or a long term care facility. During this time I am going to be adjusting to my first job as a PTA, so I am not going to get any extra certifications at this time. It is going to be important for me to continue researching and learning about different types of diagnosis and patients I may have to treat so I am well prepared to give these patients the best PT experience possible. In order to do this, I will do research on patient with diagnosis I am unsure of. I would also like to continue to expand my knowledge of therapeutic exercises. In order to do this I will continue to research exercises online and on HEP to go, as well as learn from other PT and PTA’s I work with. During this time I would like to find a class on manual therapy to help me improve my manual therapy skills. To find a manual therapy class I will get online and look for courses, which there is some information online offered by Myofascial release treatment centers and seminars. I will just need to see if PTAs are…

When I was a young child, I witnessed my sister receiving stitches on her head. We were jumping on my bed when she fell and hit her head on the headboard. I was inspired by the medical professionals who treated her. Although this was a traumatic experience, it helped shape my aspiration to help others. Serving and improving the lives of others is a fundamental duty that I believe should be a part of everyone’s personal mission. Working in healthcare is the path that I discovered as an ideal way to accomplish this goal of service. In particular, I intend to eventually become an anesthesiologist where I will assist patients during medical procedures.…
