When an artist composes a song, he or she will typically provide a music video to accompany it. These videos contain anything from choreographed dance routines to digital enhancements. The focus is rarely on the music or the lyrics and more on how outrageous they can make their video. In Gotye’s video for “Somebody that I Used to Know” the painting depicts a compelling visual description of what his lyrics covey. It demonstrates how combining simplicity and artistry can establish a very powerful message. The painting represents the complexity of his shattered relationship and the emotional baggage he still carries with him. In the beginning seconds of the video he shows an ascending glimpse of himself naked, while a blank canvas stands behind him. This gives the illusion of a blank slate and exhibits the insecurities and vulnerabilities he felt at the start of the relationship. In Janelle Monáe’s “Hell You Talmbout” she talks about people living in poverty. She first starts with the first verse saying that in poverty there is a lot of violence, from bombs being thrown, guns being pulled out, and a body lying on the streets from police brutality. In the chorus she repeats “Now what the hell you talking ‘bout?” this could be seen as Janelle speaking to an outsider who does not see all the violence and poverty, while those who live in those conditions experience it every day. In the second verse, Janelle addresses the topic of how fast drugs are traveling in poverty and how they are stealing from one another to get money for drugs. In the line “the poor man eats off of the rich men’s dollar,” Janelle refers to how many…

Goldsworthy and McLean utilise a myriad of language techniques for instance metaphors, repetition, oxymoron’s and juxtaposition which create visual images towards their audience. Goldsworthy’s ‘Maestro’ is a fictional novel about growing up in Australia and seeking to be a performer in music whereas Don McLean’s ‘Starry Night’, is a five verse song dedicated to the life of Vincent Van Gogh, particularly his painting ‘A Starry Night’.…

As an American college student, we can be very stereotypical and commonly conceptualize other cultures or countries. We like to assume every Mexican that we see is an illegal immigrant and cuts grass for a living, that the Asian in our class is usually the smartest, and that Germans have no sense of humor. International students are aware of how their peers view them, Rebekah Nathan, who is in her fifty 's attended Northern Arizona University as a freshman. Nathan observed and interviewed some international students to get their opinion about the lack of information and misinformation that American students have about other cultures and countries. With her results she wrote an essay titled "My Freshman Year: Worldliness and Worldview”, in the essay all of the international students interviewed described American students misconceptions as ignorant. I agree with them but I don 't blame the American students, I blame America’s educational system, simply because of my experience with social studies for the twelve years I was in grade school. When I think back to what I was taught…

To begin with, Journalism teachers should be looking for students who are dedicated. Students need to be willing to commit to a task they are assigned, even if it's not what they hope they could work on. Secondly, he or she should look for someone who is non-biased. It is important to not have any preconceived opinions when reporting something. Otherwise, viewers would only see things from a certain perspective, which is the opposite of what a story should be. Finally, Journalism teachers should look for a student who works well under pressure. We all know the feeling of having to fix a mistake on a paper or a test that you didn't realize until the last minute. Mikey Espinosa is an artist who made her dream come to life. One of her pictures is an abstract portrait drawing that originated from a dream that she conjured up. It shows a young woman staring at herself in a mirror, her body animatronic, with an electrical face exposed. This is a successful piece of art because it gets people to let their minds wander and think about what the possible meanings are behind the art. An effective piece of art also catches and keeps audience’s attention, which this one definitely does. And it also lets the audience feel something to the piece.…
