Gossip Girl By Cecily Von Ziegesar
The fictional two-hundred paged book Gossip Girl is written by Cecily von Ziegesar. The book was published in May of 2002. The setting of this story is taken place in New York City's Upper East Side during the fall in 2001.

The story begins with Blair Waldorf attending a party at her house with her friends Kati Farkas and Isabel Coates. Soon after, Blair sneaks away from the party to her bedroom in order to have sex with her boyfriend, Nate Archibald. However, they are interrupted (an occurrence that happens several times throughout the series) by the arrival of Serena van der Woodsen, Blair's old friend who left one year ago to attend boarding school.

When Serena was around, Blair was always left in her shadow, so when she returned Blair was not particularly thrilled to see her. Especially when Blair finds out that Serena and Nate had sex the summer before Serena left. Serena does not understand why she is being ignored by all of her friends. Also all throughout the book, Gossip Girl, a popular blog site written by a girl whom many visit, spreads around rumors or gossip about this group.

In the book Unbroken, which I read shortly after it was released, Hillenbrand chronicles Zamperini’s epic and, at times, terrifying odyssey. Raised in California, he was the son of Italian immigrants.…

Code Girls by Liza Mundy is a worthwhile read about a part of American history that was secret for many years: American code breaking efforts during WWII. And since the book speaks primarily about the many, many women involved in this effort, and how this was part of the general 'women to work' movement that helped to fuel the war effort. Code Girls provides useful information about the massive, and ultimately permanent, structural changes to the American economy occurring during and after the war. The notion that women could have careers too, began to take root at this time. The book is timely in its discussion of women in the workplace, and in this case, women entering into what was a purely patriarchal environment - the military.…

The movie Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand depicts a clear description of the experiences and struggles that those who fought in it had to endured. Timely, it also shows the effect of WWII on the relationships between different ethnicities and races as people found something in common with those they once considered as outcast of their social network. However it also created the opposite effect in which it divided people and placed them to fight against each other for a cause they themselves did not hold; it teared down relationships and friendships . Unbroken shows the changes of WII on the attitudes we had towards those who surround us, whether it was to our countrymen, immigrants or international individuals.
