Globalization In America

Between 1492 and 1750 the world became globalized for the first time. Globalization is the increasing interconnectedness of the world. Many continents benefited from this, such as Europe, and many continents suffered from this, such as Africa. Globalization has paved the way for the world that we live in today. Globalization reached the Americas when Hernan Cortes and his crew of 600 conquistadors reached the Americas to conquer the Aztecs. The battle for the Aztec Empire was the first time Americans were introduced to Spanish culture. The Americas benefited from this in many different ways. To start, they were introduced to all sorts of goods and animals that they had never seen before. Sugar was a major benefit for the Americas as it stimulated trade and was used in all sorts of medicines and foods. The abundance of sugar plantations led to diversity in race and culture. Secondly, they were introduced to horses. Horses were extremely beneficial because they were used in a numerous amount of activities. Horses were used for work, in war, transportation,
Even though Africa benefited from globalization, they mostly suffered from it. One of the benefits of globalization for Africa were the manufactured goods that were brought to them through the slave trade. These goods consisted of silver, strips of cloth, gold, and copper bracelets. On the contrary, Africa was the main source of slaves since they had already been exposed to tropical diseases and had built up an immunity. This came with several disadvantages. Firstly, the African population remained stagnant since upwards of 20% of slaves died on the journey to the Americas. Also, African technological advances were hindered because they devoted their energy to hiding and defending themselves from slave traders.
