UConn continued their outstanding play behind forward Katie Lou Samuelson, and guard, Saniya Chong. The two were unstoppable, as they led the Huskies to a 67 percent field goal percentage at the half. While UConn thrived, South Florida struggled to get things going offensively, entering halftime down, 65-19, on 9-of-34 shooting.…

    Gallardo Case Study

In the first half of the season, opposing batters swung at 63.9% of pitches in the strike zone and put 31.3% of all pitches in the strike zone into play. In the second half of the season, opposing batters swung at 62.1% of pitches in the strike zone and put only 29.7% into play. As a result, opposing batters did less damage on pitches in the strike zone. Likewise, batters swung at 22% of pitches not in the strike zone and put 6.5% of all pitches not in the strike zone into play. In the second half of the season, batters swung at 24.5% of pitches not in the strike zone and put 8% into play. It’s pretty clear that batters have been swinging at worse pitches in the second half then they did in the first half. Gallardo doesn’t have good enough stuff to really take advantage of this, but he has seen some benefits due to random…

“The Closer” is an autobiography by Mariano Rivera. Mariano was born on November 29, 1969 in Panama City. He pitched for the New York Yankees from 1995 to 2013 and is seen by many baseball fans as the greatest closing pitcher to ever play the game. Mariano totaled 652 career saves, which is a record in Major League Baseball (MLB). A save in baseball is when a pitcher enters the game with their team in the lead and finishes the game without ever losing the lead. Mariano’s autobiography uses many course themes discussed in class, such as social philosophy, cultural diffusion, religious influences, militarism, social class, and what it is like to be an international professional athlete.…

My first full stride throws feel good. It’s not just our first game of the season today- it’s THE first game of the season for the 15-16 Babe Ruth leagues. The mound is smooth and the dirt is still the reddish color of fresh clay. Later in the year it will be a rutted, sand-covered mockery of what the rulebook describes. For today though, for this first day’s contests, it’s perfect- and it’s mine. The smooth, even slope and bright white rubber bear no marks or scuffs, save what I’ve made. It’s brand spanking new, and it’s here just for me- just for today.…
