Gone With the Wind is a classic movie that has been loved by many Americans over many generations. In 1939, the film won eight Academy Awards. It is a great love story set in the American Civil War and the period of Reconstruction afterwards. Told from the viewpoint of the South, the Confederacy, it is more of a dramatic love story than a war movie. David O. Selznick produced the film and he hired two southerners as advisors for accuracy, Wilbur G. Kurtz and Susan Myrick. With their help, Gone With the Wind is accurate in its portrayal of life for civilians in 1860s America, events, and the background details, yet inaccurate in its portrayal of race relations.…

Since 1977, George Lucas has released a total of six films in his epic space opera that deals with the age old battle of good versus evil. There is much debate about which film is the best of the saga, or which trilogy is better. If you peruse the old world wide web on this subject, you will see quite a few fans proclaiming that The Empire Strikes Back, the fifth film, is the best film in the saga. I am one such fan who subscribes to this belief. The Empire Strikes Back is the one film to find the perfect balance in…

"Star Wars" was arguably the first in a new breed of high concept, high budget sci-fi action films. It was directed by George Lucas and originally released in only a few cinemas in 1977. I feel this is because of Lucas` ability to engage the audience through careful use of sound and camera technique;…

It is hard to imagine a person who has not heard of Steven Spielberg. He is one of the most renown, if not the most renown, American filmmakers of the century. His films have captivated and helped develop imaginations of contemporary society and remain among the most successful films ever made. Spielberg was born in Cincinnati on December 18th, 1946. His father was an electrical engineer, and his mother a concert pianist. Steven seemed to get the best elements from both of them. Spielberg had an early fascination with cinema and began making amateur films at a very young age. At 13, he won a local contest for his 40-minute film, Escape to Nowhere. Ironically, Steven was unable to get into a film school, so he settled for majoring in English…

The final trilogy of the Star Wars saga will leave geeks of the beloved films immensely disappointed. Disney chose to not have George Lucas involved in the making of the final three movies, stings like throwing salt on an open wound. With this in mind, Disney has chosen to hand the keys to the kingdom for JJ Abrams to oversee. This gives Abrams the opportunity to gamble with reviving this presumed ailing sci-fi franchise (depends on who you ask?) is truly a mistake. In reality Abrams selected by Lucas to direct the seventh film originally looked great on paper, but his record of missteps in films and television brings up the question. If we can trust that Abrams is the right person to capture the lore that many geeks around the world feels…
