He went out of his way to try to stop Huck from getting educated and being successful. In October Sky, Homer was quite the opposite. At the start of the book Homer seemed like he was always disappointed and didn’t like Sonny. Later you see that he want Sonny to be successful but for some reason he doesn’t want to show it. When Sonny asks for supplies Homer refuses to him but then later on the things Sonny asked for show up. I think this is the main separation between Huck and his dad’s relationship and Homer and Sonny’s. While Homer acts like he doesn’t like Sonny, he still helps him out and wants him to have a successful life.
