General Zaroff In Connell's The Most Dangerous Game
How did Sanger Rainsford successfully outsmart General Zaroff in the manhunt? In “The Most Dangerous Game” there are multiple ways Rainsford outsmarts Zaroff but there are three main ways, that are my favorite. The first trap that Rainsford made to get Zaroff is a Malay man catcher. Then Rainsford sets a second trap that is called the Burmese Tiger pit that killed one of Zaroff's best dogs. Finally the last trap is where Rainsford ties his knife to a sapling branch with some vine. The trap didn’t kill Zaroff, it did kill Ivan though. These are my favorite three ways Zaroff was outsmarted by Rainsford. “You’ll find this game worth playing. Your brain against mine, Your woodcraft against mine. (Connell 41) There were some of last few sentences of the story provided a somewhat cryptic ending. This meant that Rainsford had beat Zaroff. Since Zaroff was beat by Rainsford he won his bed. This also means Rainsford has won the hunt and is finally free and does not have to worry about hunting humans or ever being the prey again. The ending didn't tell you a lot, but told you some main things so you know and can put together with what happened next. All of these quotes explain how Rainsford outsmarted Zaroff and won “The Most Dangerous Game.” These are all ways Rainsford outsmarted Zaroff. My most favorite would probably be the last one, because you finally know that Rainsford won and the story is over and you know who won. It went the way I planned it also.
