Rainsford Dialectical Journal
Rainsford wakes up the following morning. Everything in the house is quiet, and he feels alone. Rainsford gets up out of bed and he feels an ache in his neck from something hard in the pillow. He lifted it up to find a knife with blood stains sitting under the pillow. Rainsford didn’t know what to do next, but he knew last night was one of the best he’s ever had. As he sits in the dining room and eats out of fine china, he thinks he might as well give hunting humans a try since killing two the last few days didn’t hurt him at all. He starts walking outside and locates the cellar that holds all the other prisoners from crashed ships. Whenever he walked in, the captives hopped up in excitement thinking they were being rescued because it was someone other than Zaroff walking in. Rainsford main thought was to give the prisoners false hope just to shut it down by hunting them in the end. He slowly walks down the aisle and looks at each prisoner, and lets them out one by one. They all didn’t know what to do next, but each one of them wanted to get off the island as soon as possible. There was no way of contacting people from the island, so the only way of getting away was to build a boat or raft and go towards the closest mainland. Whenever the prisoners got out, they went to the woods and started harvesting some wood. …show more content…
When thinking about it, Rainsford knew he could wait one night before doing any damage. Twenty-four hours later, Rainsford starts thinking about his attack strategies on the captives. He goes back up to General Zaroff’s bedroom and flips over the dead corpse on the ground. As Rainsford loots the metallic pistol off Zaroff, one of the prisoners walks up behind and said, “Rainsford?”

“Please tell everyone that I’m coming tonight,” replied Rainsford.

The prisoner looked down at the weapon clenched in Rainsford’s hand, and

When Rainsford first gets to Zaroff’s mansion and Ivan points the gun at Rainsford, when Zaroff hunts Rainsford, and for all the other men that Zaroff had hunted on his island. The significance of conflict is that Rainsford has no other choice, other than being whipped by the brutal force of Ivan, than to be hunted by the sick minded General Zaroff. Whose love for hunting is so extreme he hunts men. Another element I will add to Cornell’s work is key, suspense. Suspense grabs viewer’s attention, and at times makes the audience predictable, tense, and even excited. Suspense will be added to “The Most Dangerous Game” starting when Rainsford goes to Zaroff’s mansion. In the story Rainsford refuses to go into Zaroff’s library, but in the motion picture he will. This scene will be terrifying and full of suspense as Rainsford is lured in and is forced to see all the severed human heads that were once Zaroff’s hunt. This key element will also happen when Rainsford is sent out to hide from Zaroff. Towards the end of the hunt, when Rainsford last trap gets set off and…

Chapters 15-19 a lot of important events occurred that will impact the end of the story I think. Such as in chapter 15 we right away found out about the dark truth of Rudy. It was an extremely shocking new, I was not expecting that at all. I used to think Rudy was probably a nice guy mostly after finding out that he was priest. That maybe he had just felt disappointed about the religion or something and therefore he would drink a lot.…

In the morning, Rainsford awakes in Zaroff’s comfortable bed. But to his surprise he finds Zaroff sitting on the chair next to the bed pointing a gun straight to his face. With sudden shock Rainsford gets up quickly. Fear filled his whole body, sweat poured down his face, and his body froze. “Walk slowly, don’t make no sudden movement’s son.” Zaroff said calmly, but firm. Walking slowly but steady he crosses the room to the door. He opens the door and walks out with the gun still to his forehead. Sand in between his toes and almost feeling the water coming up. “On your knees!” yelled Zaroff. Hot sun burning on his face even more sweat almost soaking up his face, knees burning up from the sand, he is in the spot of a murder scene soon to happen. “Why are you doing this?” Rainsford asked. “No one ever beaten me and I don’t want you to brag to everyone that you did!” Zaroff replied. Rainsford puts his head down and thinks for a moment then says “What if I just left, but promised not to tell anyone about the game?” Zaroff stood for moment thinking to himself. He steps closer and points the gun closer to his face and says” I’m not taking that chance.” He looks at him for a second than BAM!!!! Zaroff shot a bird down… confused Rainsford looks at Zaroff, he’s laughing? “Oh my gosh!” he said,” I can’t believe you felt for that!!” you should have seen the look on your face!” Rainsford gets up from off his knees with a sudden relief and tries to laugh, but fails. They soon walk back inside and sit down at a table. “Why did you do that?” Rainsford asked still in shock. Zaroff answers “Why not?” They both sat there in silence for a moment then Rainsford gets up faster than a car going a 100 mph and says loud” Take me home!” Zaroff looks up and smiles and says “alright then, I will do that right now” They both walk to a boat and they say there farewells, Rainsford is long…

In the story General Zaroff had the opportunity to win the game by killing Rainsford, but by his ignorance he won out so he let him live assuming he would still have many more chances. In contrast, Rainsford was very careful the whole time and he was smart enough to think of swimming around the island instead of allowing General Zaroff to catch and kill him. For these reasons, you can conclude that there are many differences between Rainsford and General Zaroff.…
