The fact that the Netherlands is part of the European Union and by extension have a joint non-governmental equity with them is pivotal to how policy is implemented and shaped in their society. For example, The UK referendum occurred that possibly allowed for Britain to possibly depart from the European Union. This established major problems of the Dutch because the United Kingdom was a major trading partner with them which would hinder the amount of income and goods that are coming which would by correlation affect how the budget is made and which programs/charities are more important to funded and taxed. The hindered trading can also allow for more nonprofits to be created as need because of the government failure to ensure that programs are put in place for the citizens. Accordingly, with current changes with the ‘withdrawal’ of the United Kingdom from the European Union there also ushered in the political and societal ideals from certain political groups. One major group and politician the recently came forth was that of Geert Wilders and his Party for Freedom. The focus of this new political party is to ban or make it harder for any Muslim refugees to come to the Netherlands and ban any religious texts such as the Koran from being sold as well. These poses a major problem because one of the major nonprofit sector in Amsterdam’s deal strictly with refugees and garnering support for said refugees. Many of the people are creating their or establishing their own independent sectors to help combat the government and societal failures. The laws that were once established to combat a discrimination against a person of a different culture, race or gender…

Finally is the fact that people want to leave the EU for a variety of reasons: the EU has too much power over the laws in the UK as “The EU has the authority to apply legislation in the UK”(www.parliament.uk ), unnecessary rules and regulations, and paying for other countries’ economic problems. And if UKIP was to come to power they would force the idea of the UK leaving the EU.…

Party leader of the Dutch Party for Freedom (PVV), Geert Wilders helped launch an anti-Islam party in Australia. The Australian Liberty Alliance (ALA), a sister-party of the PVV, is inspired by the ideas of Wilders, and fiercely turned against the Islam. Wilders wants to ‘reduce the diffusion of Islamic people and culture’. Wilders’ ‘fear’ of immigrants and other cultures is based on his thinking that we, the Dutch, are losing our culture. Borders do not limit these kinds of ideologies, they inspire and stimulate each other, like in this case. This means that the very nature of Wilders’ xenophobia, his fear of foreigners, is a result of international exchange of ideas. The process of diffusion of cultures, political ideologies, and people,…

Some of these writers included Jonathan Swift, Samuel Johnson, and Andrew Fletcher of Saltoun. The Country Party was at its strongest in England for only sixty years, between 1680 and 1740. However, their principles kindled the American Revolution.…

For eons upon eons, mankind has been creating conflict, and eventually resolving the issue. Yet those resolutions may come with a heavy price to pay, lives can be lost, families can be separated, and reputations can be ruined. Racism is a problem worldwide, in some places more than others. In Greece, racism has been increasing due to the number of immigrants there are. The number of illegal immigrants needs to be decreased in Greece, but at the same time the number of violent attacks made towards these immigrants needs to be diminished completely. The Golden Dawn is a political party that’s actions need to be stopped. Along with assaulting many immigrants, the Golden Dawn won 18 seats in parliament on a platform to remove immigrants in Greece. Groups such as the Athens-Based Campaign Against Racism and the Human Rights Watch have been trying to stop the brutal attacks amongst the people of Greece. If the rate of immigrants decreases along with ending attacks against them, Greece will be a better place.…

Immigration is a political issue which reveals the inherent contradiction behind the notion of the liberal democratic nation state. That being the universal promise of human rights, and the exclusive promise of membership to the nation. Nowhere is this clearer than the debate surrounding naturalization and the granting of citizenship to immigrants. Historically in Europe, citizenship has been intrinsically tied to membership of a singular culture or ethnicity, but over the last few decades there has been a general trend of liberalization throughout Europe. However, for the most part naturalization is viewed as a reward granted to the immigrants who show an understanding and appreciation of the civic and cultural norms already in place. The…

Under this system of classification, much of recent US policies fall under the aspect of control, while most European policy developments fall under integration. The differences in the approaches to immigrant integration highlight the divergent ways in which immigration and security are defined in the US and Europe. The US has focused more recently on external threats, particularly from Mexico. Therefore, border control has taken precedence, while there has been almost no emphasis on immigrant integration. In fact, the US has no nationally organized integration policy. In contrast, Europe has taken a more internal approach, which has led to a greater focus on integration policies rather than border control. The focus of these policies has shifted over time in many countries like the Netherlands,…

According to the statistics, some European countries including Germany, France, and United Kingdom have international migrants as more than 10 percent of total population (UN, 2013). In 2013, the number of international migrants reached an all-time high rate of 232 million which, at the same time, raises the higher possibility of diverse conflicts between the immigrants and the natives (ibid, 2013). The term, immigration, has been applied to situations where a person moves to a different country for the purpose of permanent stay (Anon., 2012).Considering aforementioned facts, it can be easily recognized that the issue of immigration is not something only for particular countries but for a wider range of countries that needs to be dealt with…
