What are the most popular reasons for a gang violence? I really dislike the thought of fighting and being cruel to another person, it makes me wonder why there’s so much violence by gangs and sometimes within the same gang. To stop worldwide gang violence we should understand why it gets started in the first place. Gang violence doesn’t just affect the actual gangs, it affects their family members and the people and places around them, if we understand it first, we can come up with ideas to stop it. Gang violence isn’t just a local issue, it’s global too. The article I found, “Gang Violence and Knife Crimes,” explained that gang violence really revolves around homicides. Homicides happen to be a largely dominated by gangs. Gang members join gangs for a sense of community and pride and in order to show loyalty, fights breakout, when the fighting escalates people get badly hurt. Lots of homicides are committed by large gangs and in cities like L.A., gang-related homicides contribute to ¼ of the homicides in the city. It’s scary to think about that so many deaths are contributed by gang members. Gang violence starts in the first place because everyone wants more power. Lots of gang members carry weapons, 39% of gang members self-reported that they had carried a knife in the past seven years. Carrying weapons increases the risk of harming people and getting into fights for turf or control over an area, or even just to settle a petty dispute. They bring their knives and other weapons everywhere which is a big risk. This is why knife and other weapons-related crimes are so big in gangs. Violence easily escalates when there is a weapon in the scenario.
