Functional Communication Training Response Paper
In this article the author’s purpose was to test two different teaching methods of functional communication training responses. The two different methods that were compared was single and multiple response. Ashby was a little boy who was diagnosed with a mental disability. He was referred for the study by a unit, to treat his self-injurious behavior. For the study Ashby’s alternative mand was for him to use picture communication symbols (PCS). He was told to make a sentence by using “I want” picture with a picture of the item. After, the sentence was formed he had to say it out loud to receive the reinforcer. Each session was led in the unit where Ashby stayed.

    I was very interesting doing this assignment. I learned a lot watching people on how they dress, act or interact with others. In this assignment I watched people at my work which is a restaurant on the nonverbal codes and messages. In this area workers are supposed to give a certain standard on which people are pleased with in the end. In their own area they are supposed to keep up with their own work load. This can easily be avoided as you or other staff can either familiarise themselves with the languages they use or using someone else’s skills to get the message across (using a translator or an interpreter). However these can be expensive and hard to find so there is a service you can use over the phone which acts as a translator or an interpreter. Another way of overcoming a language barrier is to use phones/ computers. People can easily gain access to sites/ apps that allows them to translate your message into different languages.     To enable you to establish a respectful relationship with children and young people you need to maintain your professional distance at all times and remember you’re there to educate them not to be their friends. You must let the child know you’re interested in them and make time for them, each and every one of them.
