Sunday is the main events so the runners for the half and full marathon came in to retrieve their information packets, and shirts which they will wear during each run. Before I was assigned to work with a few other ladies behind the Shirt Distribution stand, the staff explained to all the volunteers about the water pouches that will be available to use during the events, and briefly demonstrated how the new water pouches worked, and how we should hold the water for the runners as the passed by. At the Shirt Distribution stand, we handed out long sleep shirts for each race, and collected the Shirt tabs which were located on each runner’s bibs. Once we collected the tabs, we each placed them in a clear plastic tub, which the head of staff would use to count if they needed to know how many shirts were distributed. We each took on equal responsibilities for the shirt distribution tasks, and when we were not busy; we conversed and got to know one another a little better. Pizza and burgers were provided for lunch, along with some water or soda to drink. Starbucks was available for everyone to drink freely, and cupcakes were being donated for two dollars towards charity. One of the supporters was a ballet company touring for the holidays, so they chose to put on a free short performance for the visitors at the Freedom Marathon Exposition, while giving the children a free lesson on how to properly stretch the muscles in their body. I thought it was great way to market the business and to get local patrons interested and eager to see more. I found it interesting to see that all ages were running or walking the marathons and it open my eyes up to how many people are actively involved in the community. Everyone was really humble and patient while waiting to receive their shirts which allowed the

It is really a special day to see all these runners participate in this Red legs Run. It shows how strong and supportive the Red Leg community and that there is always opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our youth. I projected that this race would hopefully raise 50,000$dollars. Ladies and Gentlemen. Today we have already raised over $180,000 and that number is continuing to rise. This number is unprecedented and I want to personally thank all of the sponsors and participants for helping us achieve our goal of 50,000. This money will be incorporated into the Red's community fund. This money will fund some of our outreach programs. Outreach programs include the Reds Rookie Success League, a free, coed, character-building program for 6-12 year olds in Greater Cincinnati. It will also fund Youth Baseball and Softball Funding, which underwrites expenses for more than 400 inner-city teams throughout Reds Country. Also, it will aid in Renovations of multiple baseball fields. The funds from this Red Leg Run will help restore over 325 baseball and softball…

That was the amount of time it took to lose feeling, and for my mind to take total control over all mechanics of in body. It was a small sliver of time that called back on a span of seven month’s worth of work. Our four by four team performed in unison to come in second place. Gibson Southern came in a very close third. My teammates and I were all given an opportunity to sacrifice a brief moment of pain in order to reap the benefits of being champions. We grew up together watching the older runners take home conference, while wondering what it felt like to have a title of our own. To win by this slim of margin, on the last race, and just being able to contribute, was the greatest amount of elation I have ever felt in my…

Not only do events enhance the quality of our life, they can provide significant economic benefits. These can be through ‘trickle down’ effects such as money spent by visitors from outside the area. Events can also provide revenue for special projects. Regardless of size, all events have other things in common – they require a high degree of planning, a range of skills and a lot of energy. This booklet is designed to help all event planners, administrators and volunteers - no matter what the size or scope of the event - to plan and execute events to the highest level. We recommend that you read this booklet in conjunction with two others in the series - Running Sport 5 - Funding and Sponsorship Development and Running Sport 4 - Marketing and Public Relations. Remember - organization and co-operation are keys to any successful event.…

For this event, we had to organize a sale to raise as much funds as possible so that we are able to buy more stuff for them. We had created a group on Facebook as it is convenient for everyone to discuss on what to sell and how much to sell. In the end, we have decided to make some bookmarks and also some orange juice for the sale. We set up a booth for a day in front of Monash library and it lasted from 0900 to 1500. We took turns taking care of the booth and selling our products as some of us had classes in between. Although it was tiring and time consuming, it was a fun experience as we get to learned quite a lot of things from this event and the bond between us grew stronger.…

    Race Against Time

The book, Race Against Time by Stephen Lewis is compiled with five heart-quenching and eye-opening lectures. Each chapter held an important topic but they all were related by the continued inefficiency of the United Nations assistance, the lack of compliant funding from developed countries, as well as the endless potential that Africa is unable to clench. For decades the United Nations has been working to achieve a better peace for the global community by improving international law and security, economic development, social progress, and human rights. The organization is equipped with a variety of groups that have a specific focus, such as the Economic and Social Council, World Food Programme (WFP), and several more. Lewis proposes that the high status and admirable mandate of the UN is merely an illusion, with translucent promises and barely prompted goals. In the year 2000, the UN came up with The Millennium Development Goals all to be achieved by the year 2015. Lewis touches upon the following in regards to Africa; halve poverty and hunger, provide universal primary education, promote gender equality, reduce by two thirds the child mortality rate, reduce by three quarters the maternal mortality rate, and halt and reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS. Unfortunately, the complete accomplishment of these goals is at risk. Stephan Lewis believes that the people running these important organizations do not succeed in their position; they are entitled to an…
