Free College
Free college would be more like another high school. The Government may make a change that will affect a lot of people in the United States of America. That change is giving free college to every student which can either be a bad or a good thing. Although many people think it’s bad because free college would mean a raise in taxes. Secondly it is also a bad idea because the requirements at a job might get higher and be more than two years of college for most of them. Third reason free collegeis not a good idea is because the people that already paid for the two years of college may need to pay for another two years just get a job that they could’ve already had. Raising taxes is the main reason why giving free two year college is a bad idea. Taxes is the main reason because as it is known the United States of America is not financially stable at the moment. Now it is known that many jobs that did not use to need any type of college degree may need about two years college to work in those jobs. And if free college happens jobs will need more requirements school wise. Since according to president Obama, free college would only be happening for students that do well in high school what will happen to the people that don’t do well in high school or have a GED. Or even the people that don’t like school at all and want a decent job that wouldn’t have needed a two year college degree which probably will happen if free college goes through. Those people wouldn’t know what to do with their lives. They also wouldn’t be able to make a living especially if they have a family. That’s the second reason why making free two year college happen wouldn’t be such a great

Obama has proposed the idea of having community college be free in order to increase the number of people to own a degree. Joanne Jacobs writes in her article about free community college that “The White House estimates that this would cost $60 billion for over 10 years” to execute. With our economy in shambles at the moment, this can worsen the economic status of the country, adding to the drastic debt that continuously rises on a daily basis. If Obama creates some sort of promise about tuition being free, then another issue could arise, which is having schools become more crowded than what they already are. States need to spend more money in order to increase the…

The National Student Clearinghouse reports that, “Just under 40 percent of community college students earn a degree within six years, compared with almost 74 at private nonprofit schools and about 63 percent at public universities. So if these low income students are already at odds then how will the fact that community college is free help. I have seen multiple of my family members attend community college and then stop going about after a year or so, where as I watched my sister graduate from a four year university. If community college is free we might see more kids attend them instead of four year universities simply because it will save them money. Like Matthew Chingos, research director at the Brown Center on Education Policy states we, “can nudge students to attend lower quality institution.” The hope of seeing more students get their degree as president Obama hopes may not be happen by making community college…

Many are against the idea of not charging for community college because they believe that not charging for community college will bring more debt to America. Andre Kelly, the director of the Center on Higher Education Reform at the American Enterprise Institute, describes why he believes that having free community college tuition is not the way to go. He states that community college is already practically free and that’s there’s no need to have this type of promise. That its incredibly naive for anyone to think that college graduate percentage would increase just because community college now has the label as…

College education being free, has been a topic that many debates, or come across often. Several countries do provide free college education, but this system won’t work in the United States especially in the highly populated regions. Therefore, making Community Colleges free, our taxes will rise, we will have overcrowded classrooms, and underpaid professors, all leading to poor quality of education. As stated by Mary Clare Amselem in her article ‘Free Community College is a bad deal for taxpayers and students’ , community colleges generally have a poor academic rate. Consequently, the education level for job employment will also increase.…

If one looks at the data, the bigger problem is that many students don’t finish college. “Only about 55 percent of students graduate six years after starting,” Bob Luebke (a writer for the Civitas Institute.) The problem is not access but completion. So why do people drop out of college? For the most part, money is not the biggest problem; it’s usually factors like family issues, or transportation. Providing free tuition to institutions that graduate only a small amount over 50 percent of their students does not make economic sense. Also, if college tuition does become free for students, colleges will attract more young people who are not suited for college and will most likely drop out as well as more students that will major in fields with little or no market…

However, a college degree should not be the new high school diploma. “More than one-third of students have to take remedial courses when they enter college, as they leave high school unprepared for university-level work. Free community college would put even less pressure on high schools to produce graduates who are prepared for college-level work, as they could expect the new free community colleges to fill in what the high schools are failing to do. The proposal is more likely to produce a six-year high school system than a two-year gratis workforce preparation experience” (Burke). Numerous people would take advantage of the “FREE” two year college courses, and community colleges would more than likely be bombarded with students looking for a free ride. There are already programs out there that help students with college tuition; there is no need to raise taxes even higher to pay for everyone to go to college free for two…

People who have potential and the knowledge to go to college and make a difference won't be able to do so if they don't have the money. In Europe, some colleges and top universities are free! People like Leonardo Da Vinci, attended colleges in Europe. People should all have equal opportunities and should be able to pursue their dreams. Recently, it was announced that the President is trying to make community college free for all. Most of my friends will be going to community college next year. Some are going there because it was the only option for them to further their education, others because they did not have enough financial help to go to a four-year college. So wouldn’t a free community college have a good impact on them? Supporters of this idea say that it can persuade more people to go to college and get more financial diversity into the community colleges. What they don’t see is the horrible repercussions that those effects will have in the education system that can easily deter people from getting a good education and will instead have hopeful low-income students get a mediocre education.…

From 2008 to the last year of being president of the United States Barack Obama has made a difference not just for the country but the community itself we live in. Serving in his 2 terms so far, the community of the country have seen the changes that has come to benefit for the U.S. in the future. From simply dropping the percentage of the unemployment rate every year to making history by legalizing gay marriage we must come to the realization that Obama is simply trying to adjust to the present time and give recognition to current issues so that the country's future is bright and better. So with his idea of trying to make community college free some believe that trying to promote that idea will only create future conflict such as a financial crisis and students competing to be enrolled in community rather than fully focusing on enrolling in a university after high school. Noticing those conflicts those critics fail to understand the benefits it’ll bring for students attending during and after school. Rather than disapproving the idea, the community of the country should be promoting to have community college free for all students because of conflicts they face after high school such having issues financial to also…
