Freak The Mighty Persuasive Speech
In the song Lindsey writes “You’ve got a big heart, the way you see the world it got you this far”
This reminds me of how Freak is having to go through his Morquio Syndrome and how he’s growing on the inside and not on the outside as much. Freak is getting worse but all he can think about is how he wants to be a bionic human, the first one, which was actually a big lie. He seems to forget that every day, but he doesn’t. All Freak really wants to do is to go on fun adventures with Max and be Freak the Mighty. Freak’s heart just grew too much for his body to stand. “‘I don’t think it was a lie, Maxwell, do you? I think he needed something to hope for and so he invented this rather remarkable fantasy you describe. Everybody needs something to hope for. Don’t call it a lie. Kevin wasn’t a liar.’”

class, Max would never have stood up to his dad or have done anything that summer. Without Max, Freak could’ve died, nobody would ever really understand Freak, Freak couldn’t go on adventures, Freak couldn’t share about his bionics, Freak would have nothing to do that summer. Without each other, what could they possibly be? When they’re together, they’re Freak the Mighty, slaying dragons, (or bad guys) saving damsels in distress, (or damsels who cause distress) and walking high above the world (more like 9 feet). Freak the Mighty are the ultimate team. They’ll always come back to one another even when they’re lost and alone. “I never had a brain until Freak came along and let me borrow his for a while, and that’s the truth, the whole truth. The unvanquished truth, is how Freak would say it, and for a long time it was him who did the talking. Except I had a way of saying things with my fists and with my feet even before we became Freak the Mighty, slaying dragons and fools and walking high above the world.” (page

I think they made this change instead of keeping it the same to show how it took a while for them to be friends, even after Max still didn’t want to be friends because of what had happened at the millpond. Another difference is that Freak ended up dying in his sleep instead of dying in the hospital a few days after having a seizure. They made this change probably because it would be too expensive to get the hospital and everything, and in the book Max runs to the medical research and breaks through, but in the movie he just runs in and I think they did that because it would be too expensive.…

Max is not like typical female characters in other general books, like those that are flimsy and girlish. Max stands at the highest point of the hierarchy that she belongs, and needs to act as the leader, as the one who can take control of what is happening around her. She somewhat reminds me of Katniss in the book “Hunger Games”. Both girls are under immense pressure of substantial dangers and need to step over the level of being a “girl” into a individual being that can take hold of oneself and others. At the start of the story, Max has a straightforward goal of searching for her flock’s parents, and is able to pull her flock through many dangers with the help of the hope in her mind. However, towards the end, Max and the rest of the flock realize how the searching of their parents is completely useless. With her goal perished, Max temporarily falls into a state of distress and hopelessness. Nevertheless, Max soon trounces the dilemma and return to her original self-assertive character, even a…

If we were to judge him solely on his appearance, we might assume that he is strong, or tough, or even dumb. In fact when we first see him, he is in pre-school and is being called kicker and hates being touched and ends up being hated by everybody in the school. This shows that he is misunderstood and lonely. Max is also not liked by his grandparents because he looks exactly like his father Kenny Kane, also he doesn’t do any work and is put in the special need class. This shows that max is lonely and isn’t very smart.…

In the new book that my class and I have been reading, Freak the Mighty, by Rodman Philbrick, the relationship between two friends is very strong. Max and Freak, are the main characters in the story and they are the best of friends maybe because they know how to help each other and have a great time together. Freak moves into the house next to Max’s , and Max does not know how to feel about Freak at first. Then they talk more and they grew into friends very quickly. They solve mysteries, go in “quests”, and solve problems no one was able to solve before. In this story, Freak and Max have become friends very quickly and they are always together, at school, at home, and even when they are doing things with their families. From how Max puts it, he never had a brain until Freak came along. Freak is a genius yet small, but Max calls himself dumb and giant, so they make the smartest, biggest being together. Freak helps Max with everything that has to do with school and learning, and Max helps Freak get around…

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as the military combat, natural disasters, terrorism incidents, or any major tragedy. This is common in the life of veterans and is the leading cause of suicide among veterans. A VA patient who survived in Baghdad shares his experience with PTSD and explains how he knew he had this disability. Many veterans speak out about this issue and describe their continuous anger, alcohol addiction, and constantly wanted to fight. They usually feel very isolated and distant from their loved ones. One patient states, “PTSD involves rocketing into extreme states of stress re-activity; in the form of terror, rage, and uncontrollable impulses, and plunging into equally extreme states of being shut-down—exhaustion, emotional numbing, despair, and dissociation”. PTSD is about having fear and anxiety, allowing veterans to rage with anger and different emotion. There are many factors to PTSD, which affects others in different ways; or example, using video games to keep them occupied, spending money due to the lack of impulse control because of changes in their brain, and even not obtaining another job.…

Attention Getter: I would like to start my presentation off by telling you all to ask yourselves a series of fairly straight forward questions. I want you to take a look at you’re, any hand and ask your selves “Who’s hand is this?” Do the same with your other hand, and now both legs and your arms if you would like. If I am not mistaking the answer to all your questions are mine right. They are your hands, legs, and arms. What I am trying to get through to you all today is that your body is your body and that a person should be able to profit of his or her own body if done in a safe and controlled way.…

Max is a mischievous young boy who displays aspects of childhood irritation and loneliness. He lives in a world with limited freedom as he is a child. It becomes clear to the responder through the positioning of the character on the page, the vector of the boy’s angry gaze as well as the neutral, bland colours used that Max feels like he doesn’t belong in the world he calls home. The pictures at the beginning of the story are quite unengaging compared to the bright, richly textured pages that follow. This sense of not belonging leads to Max fantasising and creating a whole new world within his imagination. In this world Max is king, there is no one to tell him what to do and how he must act. In this place Max is completely accepted and the most important part of the wild things world.…
