Frankenstein: A Short Story
“I have just made a deal with the devil!”. Victor had to make another one of them. He absolutely loathed the monster and surely did not want to make a second. But to his dismay, his wife would die if he didn’t follow the monsters orders. Victor rushed faster than a bullet to his lab to prepare a bride for his creature. He felt the perspiration on his forehead as he haphazardly stitched broken appendages together “I must finish this or else my dear Elizabeth will die!” Victor thought. He grabbed a torso and threw it on the table. He grabbed two similar looking arms and two similar looking legs and unsteadily stitched them into their correct positions. He found spare hair in the messiness that was his lab and added it for a little bit of prettiness. …show more content…
The monster asked victor to see his bride. But Victor urged him to wait another week. Victor let the monster out of his lab. The monster grew impatient . Victor heard a loud “Bang!!” and clanking footsteps approaching him. The monster soon entered victor’s lab and saw the bride.
“Why is my bride so hideous? Surely you didn’t think i would ask to marry this beast. Do you play me for a fool “The monster shouted in rage as his blood boiled.
The bride hugged the monster in a constricting embrace and grunted.”Ungggggg”
“I ask you to give me a companion so that I may live in solitude and you give me this abomination?” Inquired the monster.
The bride knew not what the words meant and hugged the monster even tighter.
Victor pleaded “Creature i Promise i can build you a better bride. I just need seven more days please. Have Mercy!”
Victor thought about his soon to be dead wife and how it had all been his fault. He could have just made the bride look decent and it would’ve been okay. A mistake that could've been easily avoided by checking his work.
“How could I ever live in peace with a bride I can’t even talk to!” I have gone through the unimaginable. And you expect me to be eased by this loathsome

When Victor and Elizabeth are on their honeymoon, they take a boat ride out onto a lake next to the Villa Lavenza. They have a relatively peaceful boat ride, but things change drastically once they get to shore. The quote in chapter 23 reads, “The wind, which had fallen in the south, now rose with great violence in the west…. Suddenly a heavy storm of rain descended” (p. 172). This is a gothic novel and whenever the weather turns treacherous, it usually means something grim is going to happen. This frightens Victor terribly and he believes that this will be his death. He frantically sends Elizabeth back to their room as he feels that she will be in danger if she stays near him. This turns out to be a mistake because on page 173 Victor, “heard a shrill scream. It came from the room into which Elizabeth had retired” (p.173). The Creature had violently murdered Elizabeth. Victor quickly returns to their room and finds her dead body and sees the Creature giving him a ghoulish smile through the window. Victor shoots at the Creature, but the Creature evades the bullet and escapes. The Creature had promised to be with Victor on his wedding night and it turns out he had no intention of breaking that…

Throughout the last few chapters we have been reading, the perspective of our monster has shifted tremendously. At first, we viewed the creature as frightening and menacing. As the story continues, we base our view on the monster due to Victor’s aggressive behavior towards the creature, making us pity the poor monster as he has done nothing wrong; he is just lost in a new world, possibly experiencing culture shock. Now the creature is venturing out into the world, interacting with people other than Victor. “...for I never ventured abroad during daylight, fearful of meeting with the same treatment I had formerly endured in the first village which I entered” (106). After the monster encounters humans, people give the same reaction: fear. The monster comes baring no harm, but in fright, the citizens of the village run from him, scared of what might happen to them. This starts his increasing grudge against the humans. First, Victor rejects his appearance, oblivious to the being on the inside, now, complete strangers are neglecting him. His temper in steadily growing. “Was man, indeed, at once so powerful, so virtuous and magnificent, yet so vicious and base?” (107). After learning more history from his protectors, the creature is now questioning the characteristic change in man over the course of time. Back then, a creature of his nature might have been accepted, but now he is feared for his sole appearance. These events capture the imbalance in the golden mean because now the monster, once emotionally stable with his existence, is getting too angry and furious with the human race. The monster is now resembling Victor. Although he might not notice it, the monster is showing a strong connection between him and his creator through his actions. Both are seeking revenge and acting out through their anger.…

As Victor prepares to “bestow animation upon lifeless matter," he begins to defy nature and reality. He begins to raid morgues and graveyards, "Dabbling among the unhallowed damps of the grave ... collecting bones from charnel-houses and disturbing... the tremendous secrets of the human frame. ... The dissecting room and slaughter-house furnished many of my materials", starts his slow descent into madness and insanity. Even though he states that "Often did my human nature turn with loathing from my occupation," he continues to expose himself to the wretchedness of dead matter. His corruption, generated by his pride and ego, he gets ahead of himself, claiming "A new species would bless me as its creator and source; many happy and excellent natures would owe their being to me. No father could claim the gratitude of his child so completely as I should deserve theirs," Victor soon reaps the bitter fruits of his labor.…

The answer is that it does not matter what you think, the monster said, because your mind will contradict itself a hundred times each day. You wanted her to go at the same time you were desperate for me to save her. Your mind will believe comforting lies while also knowing the painful truths that make those lies necessary. And your mind will punish you for believing both.”…

I heard the murmur of their voices as I crossed the hall; the newly wedded couple had just sat down for dinner together, they had arrived only an hour ago. I entered the room to see Rebecca, her dark ash-brown hair, flowing like silk as it trailed down behind her dainty, gentle shoulders. I just couldn’t help to think, what kind of woman she was. I set down the plates, not speaking a word to either Sir or the new Madam; I was not in a position to talk to either of them, as that was not my responsibility. Madame, was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. She seemed so comfortable being herself. She was so lovely, so accomplished, so amusing. This was my first meeting with her, and already I was in awe of her. She had the perfect breeding to be Sir’s wife, she was incredibly beautiful and as time went I on, I realised she had the brains and confidence to outwit anyone. She was entirely different to the second Mrs De Winter.…

The quote above describes Victor’s confusion regarding his determination to create this living being. Victor was undeniably focused on innovating scientifically, shattering the laws of “life and death” (Shelley, p.52) and creating a means of initiating life beyond the scope of natural death. Before setting off to the University of Ingolstadt, Victor’s mother passed away after tending to his sister Elizabeth’s scarlet fever. Victor describes this tragedy saying: “the first misfortune of my life occurred – an omen, as it were, of my future misery” (Shelley, p.40), hinting that the passing of his mother possibly played a role in his downfall.…

To begin with this analysis it is necessary to start with Victor because he is the creator of the Monster. Victor’s passion in the field of science led him to his discovery. Victor was a self educated man until the age of 17 when he left his home in Geneva to pursue higher education at the Ingolstadt University. His favorite professor, Mr. Krempe, pushed Victor to broaden his studies to all fields of science and that is when his fascination with life and living objects began. Victor’s obsession with recreating life kept him at the university for over two years studying cadavers and how the body worked. Victor’s motive was not to create a human being that would do his chores for him and take care of him, he hoped his “present attempts would at least lay the foundation of future success” (Shelley 33). His mind was in the wrong place; he was set on what doors it could open in the…
