Title: “Leaving Home”

General Purpose: To Inform

Specific Purpose: After listening to my speech, audience members will learn how moving away from home has changed my life for the better.

Thesis: Moving away from home can make you very independent, but it makes you learn to appreciate what you used to take for granted.

III. Preview of Main Points: Moving away from home has changed me for the better. It has taught me to organize my time, to appreciate the small things in life, and how to support myself.

BODY

I. Moving away from home has taught me how to organize my time.

A. 2 jobs and be a full time student.

1. 18 credits and worked 30-40 hours a week

B. Time management

1. I needed planners to help keep obligations such as test, quizzes, and assignment dates cleared.

2. I used schedules to find days I had time to study between work and class.

C. Working and going to school demands a lot of time and living on my own has helped me to better organize my time.

II. I now appreciate the small things in life.

A. I learned to appreciate my parents more.

1. Money

2. Groceries

B. I learned to appreciate my money more.

1. I saved more money and spent more wisely since I had bills to pay.

C. I learned to appreciate small little things such as living for free.

1. No rent.

2. No miscellaneous bills.

III. I learned to support myself.

A. Managing money was something that made me spend more wisely.

    “How would you guys feel about moving?” Those words both excited and frightened me.
