Football Team Reflective Essay
As a four sport athlete (football, hockey, baseball, and track), I have endured my ups and downs with sports teams, but nothing compares to the adversity, leadership, and courage I had to muster up in the 2015 football season. The 2015 season looked bright for the hilltoppers, coming off three successful seasons, where I started and helped our football team win many games. I was a co-captain my Junior year and all-conference, so I was really looking forward to taking the reigns and becoming the true leader of our football team. However, the season was a disaster on paper at best. We went 0-9 and competed at a high level in 3 of those games. The day of our fourth football game, only 30 minutes prior to getting on the bus, my stomach started …show more content…
I knew something was serious and my parents came and drove me to the hospital. At the hospital they told me my appendix was about to burst and I would have to have emergency surgery. For the next 6 weeks I was mandated to sit out as I watched my senior season slip through my fingertips. I sat at home for the first week and reflected on how my attitude should be when I come back. I came to the conclusion I was still the leader of the team and even if I wasn’t able to play, I could still lead the team and show my commitment through continuous support. It was not easy. Watching your whole school cheer on everyone else, knowing you are the game changer sitting on the sideline because of a fluke body reaction. Through all of this I learned to fight through hard times and be positive and work hard because when I was able to return, I was more than ready. In the final game I played and my first game back, I rushed for 197 yards, two touchdowns, and led the defense in tackles. I can truly say I have never been more proud of myself and not only was it because I worked hard to recover from my injury, but because I showed my teammates that I would not give up and I would stick by them and do everything possible. It was a bittersweet feeling to leave the field for my last high school football game, but it was definitely more sweet than

The mission of the Eagle Football Program is not only to develop athletic excellence, but to provide a positive and motivating environment that encourages excellence in the lives of our athletes and staff. Honor your fellow teammate in all you do. Be totally sold out to helping the players reach their full potential. As a person, student, and player. Be a great example of what we are trying to teach our players. Don’t do anything that would destroy what we are trying to build. Don’t make excuses and always work to get better. I believe if we work together we will be a great team. We put our team first. We respect one another. We be safe on and off the field. We should also be responsible for our action. My philosophy is never give…

Quite possibly the most significant time of my life was during my senior year as part of the Edison High School football team. The story of our 2006 season is a reflection of my life and testimony to my beliefs and values. Underdogs from day one, we represented not only our school, but also our community and families. Early expectations of the 2006 Eagles were low and the surrounding community was under the belief that Edison would be lucky to go 6-4 with the inexperienced players and the loss of such a talented senior class. Suddenly, I was starting as the outside linebacker/defensive end for the first time in my career along with 18 brand new starters. Unexpectedly, a green group of replacements were 5-0, half-way through our season. After…

It was a Friday night in mid August 1991. I was a noseguard and middle linebacker on defense, depending on the play. I also played right guard on the offensive line. This is the story of a night that could of well ended any hope of being an athlete, on any level, from this point on. I will be telling the story from the defensive side of the ball, due to that is where I was playing when I had five vertebrae, slightly, separated.…

We were just going through football practice and it just was the same as every other day. We would practice hard and go through all of the conditioning. We just recently played our first football game against Lovel. That consisted of two quarters, which the Freshman played the first two quarters and the Varsity played the second two quarters. At the end of the game, it was 45 to 17, it was not close at all. That was a good way to start off the Freshman year. We were going to play the Cody Broncs in a couple of weeks, but things changed very fast. One of my favorite quotes is “Sometimes it’s the Journey that teaches you about your destination.” (Drake). That Sunday morning after playing Lovel everything in my world was flipped upside down.…

During the 3rd quarter, I was running down field on a kickoff. Approaching the first blocker, I tried to go around him, and he drove his helmet straight into my knees. All I remember is having thoughts of relief as my knee exploded in pain. I enjoyed the idea of no longer playing football, but not the physical pain. Football season passed by in what seemed like a week because I was sitting at home everyday instead of practicing. My grades were rising, my happiness and excitement were both coming back to a healthy state as basketball approached.…

All went well. A couple days later I went over to the Orthopedic Institute of Ohio, also known as OIO, and had my MRI read by Dr. William Sanko. There is when I received news that I would soon realize would change my life forever. I had a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a torn meniscus. I was sad and didn’t know what to expect. The recovery time was six to seven months and I didn’t want to be out that long. We as a family had to make the decision of when to schedule my surgery. Our homecoming was coming up. Being a girl, this was important to me. Unfortunately, I did not get to attend my homecoming. I had my surgery January 29th. I felt I handled the mental struggle of it pretty well. I pushed myself to get back in therapy. I did well with the pain through therapy and I came back quick. I came back five months later and was able to play volleyball my sophomore year.…

Continually plan ahead focusing on all possible scenarios, aspects, and possible crises to help be prepared and revise and adjust plans as necessary. This caused me to miss out on the after school activities all my friends were doing, such as Little Wolves basketball or cheer camp, because my only ride home left during practices. I began playing lacrosse in middle school. Since I was new to the sport I was determined to become a better athlete for the upcoming high school season. Spring season of ninth grade, I made junior variety lacrosse. We had an amazing season and made memories that will last forever. Unfortunately, during the season, I injured my ankle and was out for most of the season. Even though I was injured, I was still a team player and always supported my team in every way possible. When my injury healed, junior varsity's season was over, but varsity had made the play-offs. I was one of several girls who was pulled up for the play-offs that season. Every girl knew what to expect. We knew our place and were excited and proud of the older girls for doing so well. This opportunity for all the younger girls improved our skills tremendously and we got a feel for how a varsity game is played.…
