1950’s and 60s I love Lucy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7OkZrvSLcM In this episode it doesn’t really show any type of entertainment. They are spending time together and at the end playing some drums. For the outfits the women are all wearing vintage dresses. The Men are wearing are wearing suits and slacks. The little boy is dressed up nicely for a little boy. Slicked back hair. Using lots of hand expressions to speak.
1970’s
The Brady Bunch:
They are playing games and building forts. For the outfits the mom is wearing a blouse and skirt. They are almost all wearing light wash jeans. Women have their hair short. There is background music in 2 scenes in this video, which in I love Lucy there wasn’t. The housing seems very nice, almost like houses today. The Cosby Show:
In this episode The dad and mom are having a serious talk with their children. The children seem un interested and want to leave quickly. They finally stay and listen. They are wearing vintage, plaid, sweater, and jackets. Modern Family:
They are wearing jeans and modern shirts. Their form of entertainment was technology. The families have progressed since then with more people in the family. The forms of entertainment also changed along the years. In all the families they always communicated to each other their thoughts.

    Not only are the daughters of the Rodriguez's family well educated, but also their "oldest son is a lawyer" portraying the material comfort that is weaved into the whole family. The Rodriguez children are all "well-off" due to the material success they have achieved with time. One of the Rodriguez daughters is wearing a "shiny mink jacket" exhibiting her wealth, as mink jackets are usually costly. The children also own "expensive foreign cars" and they have let them "idle sharply" while they are leaving illustrating that they are wasting money. The material success that the Rodriguez siblings have achieved has led them to develop bad family ties and values. During Christmas family union is one of the major aspects and is supposed to be a joyous occasion in a cozy lovely home, but here the room is described to be "uncomfortably warm" by the people in it. Their talk is also "listless" signifying that no one is really interested in the discussions that they are having and also not enjoying each other's company even though they meet very rarely.     Good Times is a show based in Chicago, Illinois where a poor African American family make the best of things living in the project apartments. The father (James Even) would go out and work to provide for the family while the mother (Florida Evens) takes care of the house and their three kids. The next traditional show is Home Improvement, where Tim Taylor a television show host and the wife helps co-host and they take care of their three mischievous boys.     Beginning in the 1950s, however, things began to change. As Coontz writes in What We Really Miss About the 1950s, it’s important to “understand the period as one of experimentation with the possibilities of a new kind of family, not as the expression of a longstanding tradition” (31). People needed help navigating a new way of life that necessitated new rules and they looked to the media for guidance. “At the time, everyone knew that shows such as Donna Reed, Ozzie and Harriet, Leave It To Beaver, and Father Knows Best were not the way families really were. People didn’t watch those shows to see their own lives reflected back at them. They watched them to see how families were supposed to live” (33). Looking for Work by Gary Soto echoes this notion. In the story he talks about his childhood attempts to convince his family to mimic the people he watched on television. When his siblings press him for the reason why he says, “If we improved the way we looked we might get along better in life. White people would like us more” (25). Interestingly, he cites many of the same shows as Coontz as influencing his behavior. Even a child could see the framework for living these shows provided and the belief they instilled that following their lead would lead to success. But this again flies in the face of reality.     In the first picture "The Family" (1941), the family looks like they may be struggling economically. The table only shows a fork but there is no food, which can either mean that the family doesn’t have much to eat or what they have they can’t eat all of.     Judith played an extremely dramatic and over the top retired actress her costumes matched her theatrical attitude from gardening in a sundress to pajamas. In scene I her gardening dress was a light green chiffon fabric, which was wrapped with a different type of fabric that added a flower around her waist. She also wore a straw sun hat that wrapped around the top with red chiffon looking fabric, and her perfect garden outfit came together with gloves and rain boots accessories. Secondly, in scene II Judith wore an extravagant evening gown that consisted of my favorite color and pattern cheetah print and a deep royal red. This gown was a rich royal red silk fabric and was accented by cheetah print silk fabric that draped on one side of her body. There was also black beading around the edges of her dress. This dress was accessorized with a headpiece and hand prop that matched her garment. Lastly, in scene III Judith wore a costume that portrayed pajamas that consisted of a robe that had everything you could imagine on it from feathers, to tassels. I loved the extreme of her pajamas the bright orange feather boa matched her diva personality so perfect. Judith costumes were well put together and more lovable and funny.…
